Abstract
A continuously variable transmission having viscous couplings (64, 46, 48) and planetary gearsets (20, 62, 92) with input on sun gear (30) with starting viscous coupling (46) for low speed starting while the variable ratio viscous coupling (48) controls the output speed ratio. The reversible viscous coupling (64) is controlled for reverse. Full engagement of the variable ratio viscous coupling (48) causes maximum output speed.
