Abstract
The invention relates to pressurizing existing air craft fuel systems with flameretardant (or fire retardant) gases.
Description
DESCRIPTION
Existing fuel tank ventilation systems allow air to get into fuel tanks of air craft which could cause an explosion if there is an equipn, ent malfunction resulting in an ignition, such as, static spark or short circuit, fuel gauge failure, etc.
The prese,)t invention is about minimizing the chance of fuel tank explosion on existing air craft by pressurizing fuel tanks with flame retardant gases, such as:
nitrogen, C02, Argon, or special gases for this purpose.
The flame retardant gas could be supplied by a high pressure tank or a gas generator depending what would be approved by air craft manufacturers.
From the gas generator or high pressure tank, the gas is piped to the air vent system of fuel tanks through a pressure regulator which will control positive low pressure in fuel tanks to assure that there is no air getting into the system. -

Claims (5)
1. A fuel tank system for minimizing fuel tank explosion on existing (as a retro-fit) or new air craft.
2. The system of claim 1 wherein said system is comprised of a high pressure tank or gas generator and a pressure regulator and suitable piping for air craft.
3. The system of claim 1 wherein said system is utilizing flame retardant gases approved by air craft manufacturers.
4. The system of claim 1 wherein said system the flame retardant gases are used to pressurize fuel tanks as they are depleted so that no oxygen is present.
5. A method for preventing fuel tank explosions on air craft even in emergency landing situations the method comprising the steps of supplying pressurized flame retardant gas to the air vent system of fuel tanks thereby preventing oxygen to enter and thereby avoiding any explosion and consequent fire.
