Abstract

L'invention décrit un matériau de très faible poids, à base de Mg, ayant la capacité de stocker l'hydrogène de manière réversible avec une très bonne cinétique. Ce matériau a pour formule (Mg1-xAx) Dy, où A est un élément choisi dans le groupe constitué par Li, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Al, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, In, Sn, O, Si, B, C et F; D est un métal choisi dans le groupe constitué par Fe, Co, Ni, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ir et Pt (de préférence Pd); x est un nombre compris entre 0 et 0,3; et y est un nombre compris entre 0 et 0,15. Ledit matériau se présente sous la forme d'une poudre de particules de formule Mg1-xAx définie ci-dessus, présentant une granulométrie moyenne comprise entre 0,1 et 100 mu m, chaque particule étant constituée de grains nanocristallisés de granulométrie moyenne comprise entre 3 et 100 nm ou présentant une structure nano-stratifiée dont l'écartement entre les couches est compris entre 3 et 100 nm. Certaines de ces particules ont des clusters de métal D fixés sur elles, avec une granulométrie moyenne comprise entre 2 et 200 nm. L'invention décrit également un procédé pour préparer ce matériau doté d'une très forte capacité d'absorption de l'hydrogène, et un procédé pour utiliser ce même matériau pour transporter et/ou stocker de l'hydrogène, et/ou stocker de l'énergie thermique.
