Abstract
Cette invention concerne des revêtements à base d'oxyde de polyéthylène donnant une meilleure compatibilité biologique aux appareils médicaux destinés à être implantés. Ces revêtements se composent d'une capsule de forme appropriée en oxyde de polyéthylène se fixant à une extrémité de l'appareil médical. Les composés d'oxyde de polyéthylène peuvent alors être réticulés de deux manières. Ces composés peuvent être exposés à une puissante source d'énergie pendant une période suffisamment longue pour qu'ils forment un réseau réticulé insoluble. On peut également faire réagir les extrémités libres et de forme appropriée de façon à obtenir un nombre suffisant de composés d'oxyde d'éthylène liés, ceci à l'aide d'un agent de réticulation dont les groupes fonctionnels réagissent vers les extrémités de forme appropriée de la chaîne d'oxyde d'éthylène liée. Ces revêtements à base d'oxyde d'éthylène peuvent supporter les processus de stérilisation d'oxyde d'éthylène tout en minimisant la perte de protéines ou la capacité de répulsion cellulaire.
