Abstract
A cutting jig or cutting guide for foam tube and like products comprises a channel member with opposed uprights sidewalls to accommodate therebetween a tube to be cut, pairs of aligned grooves being provided in the sidewalls to serve as guides for a cutting blade. Fillet portions are provided between the sidewalls and the base to provide a profile having at least four facets to support the tube. Preferably, the profile comprises a section of an octagon. At least one insert may be provided, having similar inner and outer profiles to that of the sidewalls and base, and dimensioned to nest therein. The insert may also be dimensioned so as to elevate the tube to a height relative to the cutting grooves as compared with a larger tube in the base unit. The cutting jig sidewalls may further comprise at least one pair of identical notches, one in each of the sidewalls, the insert being dimensioned relative to the notch to maintain a corresponding depth of cut for a smaller pipe. A pair of inserts may be provided, a larger one of the inserts to fit the base unit and a smaller of the inserts to fit into the larger insert in nesting protrusion the larger insert and base unit having one or more pairs of acooperating protrusion and recess to locate the larger insert relative to the base unit longitudinally, and the smaller insert and larger insert having at least one pair of a cooperating protrusion and recess to locate the smaller insert longitudinally relative to the larger insert, each pair of a protrusion and a recess being arranged so as to limit insertion of the corresponding insert to one direction only.
Description
2i~45~6 The invention relates to cutting jigs and especially cutting jigs for tubular products such as foam pipe insulation.
When installing foam pipe insulation, various types of cut are needed. For example, a 45 degrce mitre may be needed where the pipes intersect at right angles, a rectangular notch where a joist or beam is to be crossed, 22.5/67.5 mitre where a 45 degree elbow is required, and so on. Such foam tubing collapses and creases and must be restored to its proper round shape and supported fully to enable accurate cuts to be made. ~ ~u~ iOllal mitre block, such as is used for cutting wooden mouldings, is not suitable for foam pipe insulation and like products which are relatively soft and flexible.
