Abstract

In a flat square slab with a smooth sur- face and tongue-like attachments perpendic- ular to the side surfaces, in order to provide a large number of layout combinations, each side surface (26, 27) has two projections (22, 22', 22"), wherein each projection (22) is formed on a corner edge (23) of two adjacent side surfaces (26) and one projection (22') is formed on the same side surfaces (26) at the other corner edge (24) and the projections (22") are arranged at a slightly greater dis- tance from the edge corners (24, 25) on the other two side surfaces (27) than the length of the attachments (22, 22') looked at from the smooth surface of the slab.

Description

FLAT SQUARE SLAB
The invention relates to a plate-like, square paving stone with a plane surface and strip-like attachments extending perpendicular to the lateral surfaces.
It is known (EP-A-0 274 344; DE-U-87 17 484) to arrange strip-like attachments in thelateral surfaces of plate-like paving stones, which attachments act as spacing bodies and. permit the formation of joints that can be filled with humus or mineral substances. Only a few installation combinations are possible in connection with the known paving stones.
The problem of the invention is to create a paving stone that is suitable for a great number of installation combinations while maintaining symmetrically straight-lined joints.
According to the invention, said problem is solved in that each lateral surface has two attachments, whereby one attachment is shaped by molding on each corner edge of two adjacent lateral surfaces, and one attachment on the same lateral surfaces on the other corner corner edge, and that the other attachments are arranged on the two other lateral surfaces with a slightly greater spacing than the length of the first-mentioned attachments from the corner edges, when viewing the plane surface of the paving stone. The design of the paving stone offers the advantage that such stones can be used for cross bond installation or stretcher bond installation with support of the attachments with a large or small spacing, which permits a great number of installation combinations_ Furthermore, with the present paving stone, the attachments have a height conforming to the thickness of the paving stone.
Mooreover. provision is made also that the attachments may have a lesser height than the paving stone and end below the surface, which creates the precondition for a jointing that is visible without gaps. Furtherm~rp, the attachments, for easy and safe shaping in concrete tools, may be limited by lateral surfaces that extend slanted against each other toward the projecting end, and by a plane slanted surface or a curved surface extending in the direction of the surface.
More particularly, the present invention provides tile-tike square paving stone, having a body with vertical first and second side faces and two respective bar-like extension members, which are disposed on each of the side faces of the stone body, two first side faces which extend at right angles to each other each having a respective one of said extension members at a spacing from a common corner edge and each having a respective extension member at a spacing from the other two corner edges remote from the corner edge, and the other two second side faces each having two extension members at a spacing from the two adjacent corner edges, the disposition and lengths of the extension members on the second side faces being such that, when the paving stone is laid in a composite structure with identical paving stones, in dependence on the association between the side faces, the extension members are either staggered one relative to the other or butt-jointed to one another, characterised by the combination of the following features;
_2_ a) the extension members are disposed on the first side faces to communicate with the corner edges, b) the extension members are disposed on the second side faces at a spacing from the corner edges which is greater than the length of the extension members on the first side faces, c) the extension members have trapezoidal cross-sections with rectilinear side face portions, which extend over partial lengths symmetrically inclinedly relative to one another towards the top faces, d) the extension members have partial lengths, which are connected to the rectilinear side face portions and defiined by curved lines, which partial lengths terminate in the side faces of the stone body or respectively in the top faces, e) the extension members are smaller in height than the stone body at ends approaching upper sides because of a respective flat partial face, which extends inclinedly in the direction towards the upper side and is provided with a communicating arcuate face, which terminates in the side faces.
The invention is illustrated on an exemplified embodiment shown in the drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 shows a top view of a paving stone according to one embodiment;
Fig_ 2 shows an installation pattern of a cross bond with wide joints, with paving stones according to Fig. 1 viewed from the top:
-2a-Fig. 3 shows an installation pattern of a cross bond with narrow joints, with paving stones according to Fig. 1 viewed from the top;
Fig. 4 shows an installation pattern of a stretcher bond with wide joints, with paving stones according~to Fig. 1 viewed from the top;
Fig. S shows an installation pattern of a stretcher bend with narrow joints, with paving stones according to Fig. 1 viewed from the top;
Fig_ 6 shows an installation pattern of a cross bond with narrow and wide joints, with paving stones according to Fig. 1 viewed from the top;
Fig. 7 shows an installation pattern of a stretcher bond with narrow and wide joints, with paving stones according to Fig. 1 viewed from the top;
Fig. 8 shows paving stones according to Fig, 1 with separation lines, viewed from the top; and Fig. 9 shows a part section through a paving stone.

With the paving stone 30 of Figs. 1 to 9, each of the four lateral surfaces 26 and 27 has the two attachments 22, 22' and 22". The attachments 22 are shaped by molding within the zone of a corner edge 23 by the two adjacent lateral surfaces 26, and the attachments 22' on the same lateral surfaces on the other corner edge 24_ Furthermore, the attachments 22", when viewing the plane surface of the paving stone, are arranged on the two other lateral surfaces 27 with a slightly greater spacing than the length of the attachments 22, 22' from the corner edges 24 and 25. The attachments 22, 22' and 22" may be designed with any desired height; for example, they may have a height conforming to the thickness of the paving stone. or with a height smaller than the thickness of the paving stone.
For facilitating the shaping of the paving stone in concrete tools, the attachments 22, 22' and 22" are preferably limited toward the projecting end by the lateral surfaces 28 extending slanted relative to each other. Finally, fox obtaining joints that are coherent, visually speaking, the attachments 22, 22' and 22" are limited at the top end by a plane slanted surface, or by a curved surface 29 (Fig. 9) extending in the direction of the surface of the paving stone. Reference numeral 31 denotes possible separation lines fox obtaining the semi-stones 32 (Fig. 8).
