Abstract
A gas supply conduit that can be connected to an oxygen mask for artificial respiration of a patient. The conduit has a portion made of porous or fine-pored material that can be replaceably introduced into the gas supply conduit and via which excess air and gases exhaled by the patient are discharged to the atmosphere.
Description

GAS SUPPLY CONDUIT
Background of ~he Invention The present invention ~elate~ to a ga~ supply conduit that includes a portion ~ia which ga8 can be discharged to the atmosphere a~d which can be con~ected to a breathing ~r oxygen mask for the - 5 artificial re~pirat-on of a patient.
For the artificial re~piration of ~ pa~ient, ~ reepirator is connected to an oxygen mask vi~
the gas supply conduit. This conduit i8 provided with holes via which the excess air and the ~aae~
exhaled by the patient are discharged to the atmosphere. These hole~ are provided in the ~as suppl~ conduit aa clo~e as possible to tho oxygen ~ask so that the entire quantity of ga6e~ that are exhaled do ~ot flow back into the re~pirator.
Un~oxtunately, the dischar~e of the ga~es that are exhaled via ~uch holes is undesirable and annoying due to the noise that re~ult~ ~uriny frequent and long lasting artificial reapiration, for example during the treatment of sleep apnea. The air atream that exits these hole~ can al80 cause secondary illnesses such as conjunctivitis It is therefore an o~j ect of the pre~ent in~eneion to provide a patient friendly discharge of the exhaled ga8e8 and the excess air during artificial re~piration ~r re~u~citation.
Brief ~e~crip~ion of the ~rawing Thi~ object, and other objects and advantage~
of the present invention, will appear more clearly from the following .~pecification in conjunction with the accompanying schematic drawin~, which i~
a partially cro~-6ectioned view of one exemplary embodiment of the inventive gas Yupply conduit for th~ ~rtlficial re~piration of a p~tien~.
Summary of the Inventio~
The gas ~upply conduit of the present invention i~ characterized primarily by a portion ~ade of porou~ or in-porQd material via which ga~
i~ the conduit i~ di~charged to the atmosphere.
The exhale~ ga~ a~d the e~ces~ air are di~ch~r~ed to the atmosphere via the inventive porou~ or fine-pored portion of the gas supply conduit witho~t a concentrated air stream being produced, ~ince the ai~ flows outwardly toward all side~ t~rough the pores of the material. Any noise that i~ generated thereby i~ generally not noticea~le. The porous po~tio~ i~ expedientl~
made of a sintered ~aterial and can be replaceably di~po~ed in the ga~ ~upply con~uit. At a distance o~ only a few centimeters beyond th~ porou~
portion of the gas ~uppl~ cond~it, ~he ~ tream can no longer ~e me~sured, thus avoiding ad~ersely affecting the patient or others with a concentrated air ~tream.
Further ~pecific feature~ of the present in~ention will be described in det~il ~;ub~e~quent ly .
De~3cription of the~ Preferred E:Tnbodiment In the i~ luYtrated embodiment, the illus~r~ed conduit ~ection includes a connector me~r~ex 1 that i~ made of ela~tomeric ~n~teri~l; ~he free end of the connector member 1 can be connected to a non-illu~trated breathing or oxygen ma~k. The other end of the connector member 1 i~
disposed on a portion 2 of the ga~ supply co~duit.
Thi~ portion 2 is made o~ a porou~ material through which the exhaled ga~ and the exce~ ai~
can escape outwardly into the at~osphere. A
rotatably supported sleeve 3 iQ snapped onto that end of the portion 2 that is remote from the connector member l; a non-illuitra~ed hose that is ~onnected to a respirator can be di~poced on the ~lee~e 3.
The presen~ invention is, of courBe~ in no 21~3G14 way restricted to the specif ic di~closure of the cpecif~caeion and drawing, but al~o encom~a~se~
any modifications with~n the scope of the appended clai~
