DEVICE FOR PAINTING WITHOUT OVERFLOW
The present invention relates to a device for paint without overflowing. More specifically, this device lets you paint a surface along the line of separation of this surface from an adjacent surface, forming with the first a re-entrant angle, generally a right angle, easily and without overflowing paint on the adjacent surface.
When applying paint to a surface given, for example a partition, the operator or the painter not necessarily want to paint a surface adjacent formed, for example, by the edge of a plinth.
For this purpose, he can use different techniques.
The first technique is to coat the surface adjacent, such as the skirting board edge, of a strip adhesive used to protect said adjacent surface from the paint applied. In this way, a once the protective tape is applied, the operator can paint without taking other special precautions, and the paint applied by overflow on the strip adhesive will simply be removed once the paint dry, when peeling off said adhesive strip.
This technique has two major drawbacks on the one hand, it requires the operator to proceed first place a correct adhesive tape on the surface to be protect, all along the interface. This implies a significant loss of time. On the other hand, it is not always possible to apply the adhesive tape on the surface to be protected, in particular in the case of detachment - 21 ~ 7 ~ 19 the tape may damage the surface you are wish to protect, which is the case, for example, if the surface to protect is wallpaper.
Another technique is to use a device allowing to paint without overflow. Such devices are described in documents GB-A-2.225.528 and US-A-3,930,278.
The first document describes a flat brush on the ferrule from which a flexible protective plate is articulated extending over a large face of the brush, widening towards the tip of the bristles of the brush. The protection plate exerts pressure on the hairs only when pressed with a finger on a protruding nipple on the outside of the plate. The plate retracts by a tilting exerted by a finger on the nipple.
This device is not practical to use because it requires constantly have one hand finger holding the brush in press on the nipple to press the plate against the brush.
In addition, the paint may overflow laterally to the plate and risk spreading on the adjacent surface that wishes to protect.
The system cited in the second document consists of a protective plate arranged laterally with a brush flat by means of clips forming an elastic grip support on the ferrule. To retract the protection plate and dip the brush in paint, you have to exercise pressure on an arm which extends the protection plate towards the handle of the brush.
By pressing on the arm, the plate moves away from the hairs, but the clamp for fixing the plate to the ferrule pivots also. The attachment of this device is therefore random and imprecise because the plate during its tilting has all chance to move, the clamp is not outfit.
The object of the present invention is to propose a new device for painting without overflow which overcomes aforementioned drawbacks.
To this end, the invention relates to a device for paint without overflow likely to be reported on a standard brush with a handle, a ferrule and a ~ 137 ~ 1 ~
tuft of hair, characterized in that it comprises:
- a removable support capable of being pressed laterally to the handle and to the brush ferrule in spanning at least a substantial part of the handle length, - And a spatula articulated on said support at a point intermediate between the ferrule and the end of the handle, having an extension to the from the said point of articulation, so as to constitute with said handle a clothespin structure, means being pre ws for resiliently pressing said spatula against the side of the tuft of hair.
Advantageously, the support is plated laterally at brush, on the one hand, by means of wings forming pincers cooperating with the shell and, on the other hand, by means of a nipple engaging in a hole in the handle of the brush.
According to another characteristic, the spatula is flat and has raised edges to contain and guide the flanks of the tuft of hair, the tip of the spatula and raised edges being bevelled.
Such a device makes it possible to effectively guide the tuft of brush hair by prohibiting any deposit of painting on the surface to be preserved, direct or indirect by running laterally with a spatula, thanks to the raised edges of the latter. Furthermore, the fixing of the assembly is particularly effective and its handling is very easy.
Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will emerge from the following description of a mode particular of realization, description given as example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings on which :

brush shown in Figure 2;
- Figure 5 is a view of the device of Figure 1, the spatula being separated from the tuft of hairs;
- Figure 6 schematically represents a slide arranged in the handle of the support and allowing the position of the support to be adjusted along the brush;
- Figure 7 illustrates the installation on the device of the invention of a first accessory consisting of a scraper blade, and - Figure 8 illustrates the installation of a second accessory consisting of a tracing guide.
FIG. 1 represents a flat brush 1 provided with a device according to the present invention. This last one is consisting of a spatula 2 and a support 3 for fixing to the brush.
The brush 1 has a handle 4 at the head of which a tuft of hairs 5 is fixed by means of a ferrule 6.
The axis longit-] ~; n ~ 1 of the brush 1 is represented at A. A
hole 7 is made in the handle 4.
The support 3 is formed of a plate having a profile similar to that of the large faces of the brush 1. The support 3 has substantially the same length as the brush, except for the hairs 5.
As for brush 1, we define the axis longitudinal B of the support 3. By analogy with the brush 1, the head 3a and the handle 3b of the support 3 are defined.
The head 3a of the support has return wings 8 forming retaining clips. The end of the handle 3b is provided of a stud 9. As shown in FIG. 1, the support 3 is placed laterally on the brush, so that the ferrule 6 engages between the wings 8 and that the stud 9 engages in hole 7 of handle 4 that presents usually any brush. In this way, no involuntary longitudinal or transverse displacement of the brush 1 relative to the support of the spatula is not allowed.
The plate forming the support 3 also comprises, on the opposite side to the nipple 9 and the gripper wings 8, two legs 10 perpendicular to the plane formed by the plate and arranged on either side of the longitudinal axis B of the plate, 21 ~ 7019 substantially in the middle of the handle 3b. These 10 legs are each provided with a stud 11, these studs being on an axis orthogonal to the longitudinal axis B of the plate.
The spatula 2 is also formed of a plate presenting a profile similar to the lateral profile of the brush 1. Unlike support 3, the spatula has a length greater than that of brush 1, including the bristles 5. As before, we define the axis longitll ~; n ~ l C
of the spatula 2. By analogy with the brush 1, we define the head 2a and the handle 2b of the spatula 2.
On either side of the longitudinal axis C, substantially in the middle of the handle 2b, the spatula 2 has two legs 12 perpendicular to the plane formed by the plate. Each leg 12 is provided with a hole 13, the holes 13 being on an axis orthogonal to the longitudinal axis C of the spatula 2.
The holes 13 are provided to cooperate with the pins 11 of the legs 10 of the support 3.
Like the brush 1, the spatula 2 has, on the handle side 2b, a hole 14. Between the hole 14 and the legs 12, the spatula
This blade 15 is intended to bring one closer to the other, by leverage, the end of the head 3a of the support and the head 2a of the spatula 2.
The head 2a has, transverse to the axis C, substantially the same width as the tuft of bristles 5 of the brush 1. The head 2a has longitudinal edges 16. The end of the head 2a and the raised edges 16 is bevelled in 16a.
The device of the invention is used as follows:
the spatula 2 is articulated on the support 3 by means of the nipples 11 of the legs 10 which cooperate with the holes 13 of the legs 12. The elastic blade 15 of the spatula 2 tends to press the head 3a of the support 3 against the head 2a of the spatula 2.
The user fixes the support 3 on the brush 1, in engaging, on the one hand, the ferrule 6 of the brush 1 between the clamps 8 of the support 3 and, on the other hand, the stud 9 of the support
3 in hole 7 of the brush.
Thus, the device of the invention being at rest, the end of the tuft of bristles 5 of the brush 1 is flattened ~ Z ~ 701 ~
~ _ 6 against the end of the head 2a of the spatula, between the raised edges 16 of head 2a.
In order to separate the head 2a from the tuft of hairs 5, the user presses one against the other, like a clothespin, the respective handles 4 and 2b of the brush and of spatula 2, going against the restoring force exerted by the elastic blade 15 (Figure 5). He can then dip the tuft of hairs 5 in a paint can.
He then releases his pressure on sleeves 4 and 2b, which allows the blade 15 to press the head elastically 2a of the spatula 2 against the tuft of hair 5.
The operator positions brush 1 on the side of the surface to be painted and the spatula 2 on the side of the surface to be protect, by pressing the beveled end 16a of the spatula 2 against the edge of the dihedral defined by the surfaces. He does then slide the assembly along said edge, which allows him to paint a surface while protecting the adjacent surface of the overflows, taking into account the edges tips 16 of the spatula 2 which prevent overflow lateral of the bristles 5, as well as any lateral sagging of painting.
The bevelled end 16a of the spatula 2 allows the place precisely against the dihedral edge defined by the surfaces while improving the handling of the whole. In effect, the beveled end of the assembly allows to tilt the brush towards the surface being coated.
As the axis C of the spatula 2 forms an acute angle with the axis A of the brush 1, the contact of the bristles 5 on the head 2a of the spatula is effective and requires no action user information on the spatula 2.
Advantageously, the support 3 is pre w to receive brushes of various shapes, sizes and origins which may include a hole 7 located at a variable distance from the ferrule 6.
For this purpose, the stud 9 can be, as illustrated by the Figure 6, movably mounted in an elongated slot 17 formed axially in the handle 3b of the support 3.
A notch can be prew in slot 17 to position the nipple 9 as desired in a position or a other.
21 ~ 70 ~ 9 The prediction of the slot 17 also makes it possible to modify the relative positions of the brush 1 and the support 3. By simple forward pressure on the brush handle, you can push the brush forward so that the tuft of hairs 5 at least partially protrudes beyond the end of the spatula 2a. It should be noted that in this position the brush can be used normally.
The device of the invention is light, practical, and very easy to clean when disassembled. The brush is easily remove clamps 8 and disassemble support 3 of the spatula 2 does not pose any particular problem.
The hole 14 of the spatula plays an identical role to the hole 7 of the brush 1, allowing to hang the device the invention has a nail.
The preferred embodiment described and represented on the figures can undergo multiple modifications without going out of the field of the invention. In particular, the shapes and ~; mensions of the support 3 and the spatula 2 can vary in depending on the brushes used.
For example, the plates forming the support 3 and the spatula 2 may or may not be slightly curved in the case the use of brushes with a tuft of cylindrical bristles.
Also, the means of articulation of the spatula 2 on support 3 can be modified without departing from the the invention. For example, we can plan to articulate the spatula 2 directly on the support 3, replacing the legs 10 of the support 3 by pins.
The curved elastic blade 15 can be replaced by any other means of recall. For example, we can provide a elastic return means arranged between the facing parts 2a, 3a of the spatula 2 and of the support 3.
One can also provide other means of fixing the support 3 on the brush and possible adjustment of the position axially relative between the brush 1 and the support 3.
The device of the invention can finally receive removable accessories such as a scraper blade 18 (figure 7) coming to get on the end rim of the spatula 3, this blade used for scraping for example the dried paint on a window pane.
The device of the invention can also receive, ~ 13 1 ~ ~ ~

as illustrated in figure 8, a graduated tracing guide adjustable 19 for painting a regular strip distant from the border serving as a fulcrum. To this end, the guide 19 consists of a strip 20 mounted sliding on a jumper 21 which can be clipped laterally with a brush or spatula.
