Claims (17)
1. An animal feed additive formulation in solid form, characterized in that it comprises a binary mixture of sodium butyrate and ethyl butyrate, the ethyl butyrate being present in an amount ranging from 1% to 25% by weight, based on the total weight of the mixture.
2. A feed additive formulation according to claim 1, characterized in that the ethyl butyrate is present in an amount ranging from 10% to 20%, based on the total weight of the mixture.
3. A feed additive formulation according to claim 2, characterized in that the ethyl butyrate is present in an amount of about 20% by weight, based on the total weight of the mixture.
4. A feed additive formulation according to claim 1, characterized in that the sodium butyrate is prepared by neutralizing butyric acid with a sodium salt of phosphoric acid.
5. A feed additive formulation according to claim 2, characterized in that the sodium butyrate is prepared by neutralizing butyric acid with a sodium salt of phosphoric acid.
6. A feed additive formulation according to claim 3, characterized in that the sodium butyrate is prepared by neutralizing butyric acid with a sodium salt of phosphoric acid.
7. A feed additive formulation according to claim 4, 5 or 6, wherein the sodium salt of phosphoric acid is selected from the group comprising sodium dihydrogen phosphate, disodium phosphate and trisodium phosphate.
8. A feed additive formulation according to claim 4, 5 or 6, characterized in that the sodium salt of phosphoric acid is selected in such a manner that the pKa of the butyric acid is less than the arithmetic mean of the second and third dissociation constants of the phosphoric acid.
9. A feed additive formulation according to claim 4, 5 or 6, characterized in that the sodium salt of phosphoric acid is trisodium phosphate.
10. A feed additive formulation according to claim 4, 5 or 6, characterized in that the sodium butyrate is prepared from a mixture of butyric acid and sodium salt of phosphoric acid in equimolar proportions.
11. A feed additive formulation according to claim 4, 5 or 6, characterized in that the sodium butyrate is prepared from a mixture of butyric acid and sodium salt of phosphoric acid in a molar proportion of 2:1 respectively.
12. A feed additive formulation according to-claim 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, characterized in that it is in the form of tablets.
13. A feed additive formulation according to claim 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, characterized in that it is in the form of granulates.
14. A method of preparing an animal feed composition, characterized in that it comprises incorporating into an animal feed a feed additive formulation as defined in claim 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 in an amount ranging from 0.1% to 10% by weight, based on the total weight.
15. A method of preparing an animal feed composition, characterized in that it comprises incorporating into an animal feed a feed additive formulation as defined in claim 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 in an amount of about 0.17% by weight, based on the total weight.
16. A feed composition for animals, comprising a feed additive formulation as defined in claim 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6.
