Description

28,522-4 DEVICE TO PREPARE FOAMY MILK FOR CAPPUCCINO-COFFEE OR
THE LIKE BEVERAGES
This invention relates to a device to prepare foamy milk for cappuccino-coffee or the like beverages.
As is known, a device for emulsifying air, steam and milk to prepare "cappuccino" and the like beverages relating to the document EP-A2 0 195 750 as well as the whole prior art is related by using the principle of the Venturi tube effect for emulsifying or preparing foam.
Thereto it is provided a steam supply channel with a nozzle, which leads into a suction chamber, and an air and milk intake conduit in cooperation with this suction chamber.
Then, the emulsified beverage is tangentially led into a further annular chamber, which is provided with a central outward opening, where below for instance a cup is placed.
This additional chamber effects, that the foam is separated from the remaining fluid and consequently, for example in respect to cappuccino coffee, the aimed foam is filled into a cup with enough quantity, whereby the foam is being on the top in those cup. Disadvantages of this device existing in that it is dependant on a steam supply and therefore their use is fairly restricted.
It is object of this invention to provide a device of the type specified above, which affords preparing of perfect foam without using steam and moreover that with it a universal application is possible.
This object is achieved by the invention in that heated milk or the like and air or the like are fed under pressure by means of a pump into a chamber with an outlet opening; and preferably by means of providing a resistance passage member, in which at the inlet the heated milk and 28,522-4 the air is introduced and at the outlet the produced foam is led into the chamber.
The device according to the invention with the preferred utilisation of a resistance passage member enables in opposition to the prior art a more reliable and even more excellent foamy milk development. In addition, it is only required a electrical supply once for the motor of the pump and further for the heating of the milk, but not a steam generator, which is not existent everywhere. Therewith, it can not only be prepared exceptional excellent cappuccinos simply and fast but also heated milk with foam, for instance for chocolates or the like. Moreover the device according to the invention has the advantage, as the milk as well as the foam leave out hundered-percent pure, whereas with the known device water parts are not avoidable in the emulsion of milk and foam, which are caused by the steam.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention the heated milk together with the air is directly led from the pump into the chamber. Also thus yields to a sufficient foamy milk for the above mentioned applications.
An embodiment and other advantages of the invention are explained in detail with the aid of the drawing.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal view of a device according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a side view of the interior of a complete apparatus including a device according to Figure 1.
Figure 1 shows a device 10 according to the invention, which in essential comprises a resistance passage member 20 with an outlet 22, a chamber 23 with an outlet opening 25, arranged at the outlet 22, separating the foam from the remaining not foamable milk, a milk line at the inlet, therein leading an air line and a pump, which feeding the milk under pressure. The device 10 is disposed in the interior of an apparatus 30, which is described together with the arrangement of the inlet part in detail hereafter.
The resistance passage member 20 comprises a cylinder 26 and in it a approximately without clearance fixedly arranged rod formed element 27, which is preferable consisting of a special plastic material, whereby the latter is shaped at the circumference with a laminated structure 27" by means of a labyrinth passage 27', through which the milk is pressed. Such resistance passage members are as such known and are used for preparing cream up to know. For preparing foamy milk or the like successfully, this resistance passage member 20 must have certain conditions, as for instance said labyrinth passage 27' must be provided with a minimum length and to get an optimal and precise output power of the milk, the cross section and the formation of the laminated structure 27" has to be suitable dimensioned.
At the outlet of the resistance passage member 20 a switch device 40 is provided enabling a weight feeding of the foamy milk. This switch device 40 can be manually activated and comprises a switch head 42, in which the chamber 23 and the outlet opening 25 are integrated, a connection member 28, a housing part 43, which can be fastened to the apparatus 30 and a therein mounted microswitch 44, whereby with the latter the pump 55 is switched on or off. The switch head 42 has a socket pin 45, with which it is plugged into this connection member 28 by a bayonet fixing 29 or the like, whereby said connection member 28 is held in the resistance passage member 20, therein this switch head 42 is movable positioned. In the connection member 28 is enclosed a valve 46, 47, which is closing the outlet 22 and comprises a pressure spring 47 and at the front end of latter a ball-shaped closing element 46, whereby the pressure spring 47 is arranged coaxial to said member and supported by said rod formed element 27. The socket pin 45 has a tip 49, which extends inside the outlet 22, where it is in contact with said closing element 46 of the valve. The outlet 22, 45' extends through the connection member 28 and through this socket pin 45 and running approximately tangentially into the annular chamber 23. Besides, the switch head 42 has a parallel to this socket pin 45 extending, coaxial to the microswitch 44 arranged contact stud 51 and moreover a removable socket part 42', which includes the outlet opening 25.
If from the device 10 foamy milk for a cappuccino shall be dispensed, the switch head 42 will be manually pushed against a contact face 52 of the housing part 43 of the apparatus 30, and there it is kept until the desired amount foam is filled into e.g. a cup, which is positioned below the outlet opening. As soon as the manual pressure to the switch head 42 is relieved, the outflowing of the foam is stopped. During the movement of the switch head 42 against the contact face 52, the tip 49 of the socket pin 45 is pressed against the closing element 46 and therewith opens the valve 46, 47 and at the same time the contact stud 51, which actuates the microswitch 44 to start the pump 55.
Through that hot milk is pressed through the resistance passage member 20 and most of it is emulsifying to foam and flowing through the opening 22 into the chamber 23.
Therein, at first, primarily the foam is leaving, whereas the not foamed and heavier milk is rotating at the chamber wall because of the centrifugal force and is separating from the foam and therefore it stays longer in the chamber 23 than the foam. This method enables a preparing of a more tasty foam as with the venturi-principle.
For example for the purpose of cleaning, the 5 resistance passage member 20 can be dismounted very fast and easy by switching of the switch head 42, then the connection member 28 by loosing of its bayonet fixing 29 and after by dismounting the rod formed element 27 out of the cylinder 26.
This above in detail described switch device 40 could obvious be of another design. For example, it could be provided with a time controlled switch, which after a short knob pushing would allow an outflow of a certain foam quantity.
The complete apparatus 30 due to Figure 2 has a sheet-metal housing 31, a cover 32 and support legs 33. In this apparatus is included a therein removable placed vessel 34, in which the milk is warmed up in a conventional kind.
Therein is further provided a line 37, which is connected with the vessel 34 and in which is leading an air supply line 54, whereby the latter is connected to an air quantity controller 50, which is attached on the top of the apparatus and is adjustable by a control button 53. This air supply into the heated milk is a compulsory requirement for 25 the preparation of the foam. In principle, their could be used a gas instead of air. The line 37 is leading then into the pump 55, which has a motor 56 and is suited in the apparatus 30 and with which the milk with the air is pumped into the resistance passage member 20. The device 10 30 according to the invention is screwed or otherwise attached detachably to the front of the apparatus 30. It is showed of it the housing part 43, the switch head 42 and the socket part 42', which includes the outlet opening 25.
Moreover, in this apparatus 30 is included a heating container 70 enclosing the milk vessel 34 and having in it preferable water 71. The latter is warmed up to a certain temperature by a controllable heating arrangement 72 integrated in the heating container 70, which on his part is warming up the milk in the vessel 34.
Besides, the apparatus 30 is provided with a cup holder 58 arranged below the outlet opening 25 and next to this holder with a milk discharge valve 60. With latter hot milk can be separately discharged out of the vessel 34 and it comprises in essential an outlet line 64 corresponding with the vessel 34 and a conventional hand operative valve member 62 with an outlet 66.
Also to this apparatus 30 is showed a certain embodiment, but it could be designed differently of course.
Above, the present invention is sufficiently disclosed and therefore there are not presented any other embodiments.
In the above detailed disclosed embodiment, this device 10 according to the invention and moreover the milk discharge valve 60 are integrated in the apparatus 30. This apparatus will be sold in this manner and is particularly suited for restaurants as well as a home appliance. The device could be used in a coffee machine or in an apparatus with multiple functions.
As another embodiment, the heated milk and the air can be directly led from the pump 55 into the chamber 23 without interposition of a resistance passage member. In that case there would be arranged a line instead of the resistance passage member 20, which would be led from the pump 55 to the outlet 22. Again it could be dispensed foamy milk with the valve and the switch head of such a device.
The chamber 23 is formed cylindrically in the showed example. Principally, it could also be provided as through whole. Moreover the switch head 42 with the chamber 23 in it could be preferably provided with a bleed orifice in its upper wall, which would additionally connect the chamber with the atmosphere.
