AUTOMATED UNIT FOR AIRCRAFT LANDING GEAR:
, .
Component addition utilized to prolong the service life of the landing tires.
O~JECTIVE:
The objective of this design is to prevent premature wear and tear of the aircraft's tire life upon touchdown (landing).
PRESENT PROCESS: -Under the present format, the tires are subject to excessive . ~
friction, this is a result of extreme weight impacting at high velocity on a non-motional surface (i.e. Runway).
RECOMMENDED PROCESS:
The present proposal (patent pending) allows for the said tires to rotate at an acceleration rate equal to that of the aircraft's own landing speed.
.:
-~ This will be accomplished by incorporating an adjoining - electrical component (i.e. Motor) which is permanently fixed to the axle rod wheel connected to the respective tires. The ` rotation system is initiated upon activation of the landing gear.
''`' OVERVIEW:
The above technological process will substantially prolong existing tire life as compared to historical usage.

~ SPECIFICATIONS:
i`:?
~' ~ The process utilizes an electrical motor as defined below:
...~
- A direct current, variable voltage, variable speed, CEMA 4X, 6-48 volts power supply.
.
The above is powered by the aircraft's own power supply;
` alternatively an independent battery operated source may be employed.
: .
GEAR BOX OR GEARLES_ UNIT:
The unit can be driven by a high speed, high torque, low friction helical gear box complete with sheave and pulley attached to two shafts with a high density (Duro 80) rubber wheel on sealed bearings, driving the interior or exterior areas of the landing tires, thus rotating the tires, the same can be accomplished by eliminating the gear box.
`
SPEED:
, ...
` The speed of the motor is critical and must be identical to the on going speed of the plane upon touchdown.
:i,~
-~ Because of the D.C.V.V. drive unit, the motor speed (R.P.M.) stop and start can be controlled. Therefore a motion speed " detector will be adapted to relay this information back to the controller thus controlling the speed of the motor.

FEATURES:
A distance detector ~light-Rays) will be used to determine the distance and height of the plane and will relay information back to the controller allowing the unit stop and start. The motor with accurate timing once the plane has hit the ground.
An overspeed switch can be installed to disengage the unit in case the speed of the plane and speed of the tire rotation is not equal.
It can also disengage the unit just before touchdown, allowing it to rotate freely.
LOCATION OF UNIT:
~ ., .-;
The location of the drive unit will be installed directly below the landing gear axle between the respective tires.

Claims
CLAIM:
The motorized drive unit rotates the airplane's landing tires with the exact acceleration of that of the plane's own landing speed. The above shall result in the increase of the tire's life span. This will greatly reduce the costs associated with tire replacement. As an added feature this unit will reduce potential tire blow-outs, as well as, minimize the "skidding"
factor.
The end result is a reduction in maintenance costs and improved vehicle safety.
