Abstract
Abstract Blister Pack The invention relates to a blister pack having a pack base with a product unit retaining well, a product unit disposed in said well and a closure film sealing said well, said well being in stepped form comprising a first well having a size and shape adapted to that of the product unit and formed in the base of a second well.
Description
- 1- 2~292 59201.559 Blister Pack The present invention relates to a blister pack made from film materials such as polypropylene, polyvinylchloride or sheet metals, with a uniform basic stepping of the blister wells provided therein.
Viewed from one aspect the present invention provides a blister pack having a pack base with a product unit retaining well, a product unit disposed in said well and a closure film sealing said well, said well being in stepped form comprising a first well having a size and shape adapted to that of the product unit and formed in the base of a second well.
The uniform basic stepping of the blister wells provided in the film results in a substantial simplification in the manufacture of ready-made packages, e.g. blister packs. Depending on the geometric configuration and dimensions of the product units to be packaged, one has only to provide well shapes adapted thereto in the base of the uniform basic stepping.
In other words the product retaining wells are in stepped form with a first well of a shape and size adapted to that of the product unit (eg. tablet, capsule, etc.) to be retained in the base of a second ~-well. The second well can be of uniform shape and dimension and need not be adapted to those of the product thus allowing blister packs for a range of different product units to be produced which differ only in the shape and size of the first wells.
The provision of a uniform ~asic stepping in the blister wells, whilst shaping the well section which is intended to receive the product, also makes it possible to use a ,: , ; , 2~3`~9s'~ :
universally applicable guide track or guide panel, a universally usable transporting roller and a simplified moulding tool when producing blister packs. In particular, a single moulding tool is sufficient to produce the uniform basic stepping and the additional well adapted to the contents.
Conventionally, it has been necessary to use a set of tools adapted to the particular product to be accommodated in the blister well, as well as a special guide track and a special transporting roller or moulding panel. However, according to the present invention all that is required to produce the desired blister well is a single suitable moulding punch; there is no need to retool the conventional manufacturing equipment.
As the starting mould for the universally stepped blister well, all that is required is a moulding punch which on the one hand produces the uniform basic stepping and on the other hand produces the stepping of the well adapted to the particular contents. On the basis of the uniorm basic stepping all other equipment required for production can also be used uniformly. The height of the well which serves to hold the contents can be readily varied.
The element necessary for producing the stepped blister well is a forming head constructed as a corresponding punch for producing the desired well shape. ;
Thus, viewed from a further aspect, the present invention provides a process for producing pack bases for blister packs for a range of product units, said process comprising forming in plastics film with a selected forming member a series of product unit retaining wells, the wells being formed to have a 2 ~ {~ 2 stepped cross section comprising a first well having a shape and size adapted to that of the product unit to be contained in the retaining well formed in the base of a second well, and changing the selected forming member according to the shape and size of product units to be packed in the blister packs.
Preferred embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figures I, V and VI show cross-sections through conventional blister packs for tablets and capsules, Figures V and VI being respectively longitudinal and transverse cross sections;
Figure II shows a cross-section through the conventional blister pack of Figure I with the product packed therein; and Figures III, VII and VII show cross-sections through blister packs according to the invention for tablets and capsules, Figures VII and VIII being longitudinal and transverse cross sections respectively. ' Referring to Figures I and II, there is shown a conventional blister packs for a tablet (2), which has in the blister pack base a simple well (1) having dimensions adapted to the diameter and thickness of the tablet. Figures V and VI show a similar conventional package ~or a capsule again showing how the dimensions of the product retaining well (1) correspond to those of the capsule it contains.
In contrast in the blister pack bases shown in Fi~ures III, IV, VII and VIII, the product retaining well comprises a first well (3) having a configuration ':; ' ', ~ :. :~ ', :~;:
