Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE

A tobacco product for self-making a cigarette, especially a filter cigarette, comprising a tobacco portion (13) conforming to the tobacco filling of a finished cigarette and having an outer surface (12) which is permeable to air so that it cannot be smoked as it is. The tobacco portion (13) including its outer surface (12) consists of completely stable and its length and cross-section conform to the tobacco receiving space (10) of a cigarette paper tube (11).
To one end face of the tobacco portion (13) there is attached a tobacco conditioning member (15) corresponding to portion (13) into the tobacco receiving space (10) protrudes therefrom and may be broken off the tobacco portion (13) so that only the tobacco portion (13), i.e. only smokable ingredients, will remain inside the tobacco receiving space (10).

Claims (12)

1. A tobacco product for self-making a cigarette, especially a filter cigarette, comprising a tobacco portion (13) conforming to the tobacco filling of a finished cigarette and having an other surface (12) which is permeable to air so that it cannot be smoked as it is, wherein the tobacco portion (13) including its outer surface (12) consists of completely smokable material or material capable of being consumed by smoking, and wherein the tobacco portion (13) is dimensionally stable and is matched as to cross-section and length with the tobacco receiving space (10) of a cigarette paper tube (11) so that the outer surface (12) snugly fits the cigarette paper inside the cigarette paper tube (11) for smoking while the predetermined shape of the tobacco portion (13) is substantially maintained, characterized in that one of the end faces of the tobacco portion (13) has a tobacco conditioning member (15) corresponding to a filter tip attached thereto through which air cannot be drawn and which upon transfer of the tobacco portion (13) to the tobacco receiving space (10) of the respective cigarette paper tube (11) protrudes from the tobacco receiving space (10) and is adapted to be broken off from the tobacco portion (13) so that only the tobacco portion (13) will remain inside the tobacco receiving space (10).
2. The tobacco product as claimed in claim 1, charac-terized in that the outer surface (12) of the tobacco portion (13) is constituted by a wrapper of smokable material or material capable of being consumed by smoking such as cigarette paper, non-woven cellulose, tobacco foil material, sheet tobacco or the like, wherein the permeability to air of the wrapper is such that the tobacco portion (13) cannot be smoked as it is, and that the conditioning member (15) is attached to the tobacco portion (13) by means of a wrapper-like enclosure (16) of paper or the like wherein at an area directly in front of the wrapper-like enclosure (16) the wrapper of the tobacco portion (13) comprises a predetermined breaking point, especially a predeter-mined breaking line e.g. in the form of a perforated line (18, 20) extending at least about a part of its circumference.
3. The tobacco product as claimed in claim 2, charac-terized in that subsequent to the transfer of the tobacco portion (13) to the tobacco receiving space (10) of the cigarette paper tube (11) the predeter-mined breaking point lies within the tobacco receiving space (10).
4. The tobacco product as claimed in claim 2 or claim 3, characterized in that, when the predetermined breaking point is in the form of a predetermined breaking line (20), said line extends from the wrapper-like enclosure (16) like a bat with a pointed crown towards the opposite end of the tobacco portion (13).
5. The tobacco product as claimed in any one of the claims 2 to 4, charactrized in that the wrapper of the tobacco portion (13) comprises an axially extending tear-off strip or thread (21) or the like which is firmly joined to the conditioning member (15) so that upon breaking of the conditioning member (15) the wrapper of the tobacco portion (13) may be torn open by means of the tear-off strip (21) etc.
6. The tobacco product as claimed in any one of the claims 1 to 5, characterized in that the conditioning member (15) is mace from cigarette filter material which is densely compacted such that it is practically impermeable to air and air cannot be drawn there-through.
7. The tobacco product as claimed in any one of the claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the conditioning member (15) comprises a reservoir (24) communicating with the tobacco of the tobacco portion (13) for accommodating conditioning agents such as glycerol in order to maintain the humidity of the tobacco.
8. The tobacco product as claimed in any one of the claims 1 to 7, characterized in that the length of the conditioning member (15) is about 5 mm to 20 mm, in particular about 15 mm.
9. The tobacco product as claimed in any one of the claims 1 to 8, characterized in that upon removal of the conditioning member (15) externally of the tobacco receiving space (10) of the respective cigarette paper tube (11) the tobacco portion (13) will adopt such a shape, particularly such a cross-section, of will loose its given shape such that it can no longer - at least not freehandedly - be transferred to the tobacco receiving space (10).
10. The tobacco product especially as claimed in any one of the claims 2 to 4, characterized in that the conditioning member (15) comprises a spreader element in the form of a rigid pin (25) or a flexible piece of rope extending at least partially into the tobacco portion (13), said spreader element being removable together with the conditioning member so that after corresponding matching of the shape, especially of the cross-section of the tobacco portion (13), in the vicinity of the spreader element the tobacco portion may be transferred to the tobacco receiving space (10) of the respective cigarette paper tube (11).
11. A method of self-making cigarettes, especially filter cigarettes, by the consumer employing a tobacco pro-duct as claimed in any one of the claims 1 to 10, characterized in that the tobacco product is intro-duced with the tobacco portion (13) or the open end thereof head-on into a prefabricated cigarette paper tube (11) and that subsequently the conditioning member (15) protruding from the cigarette paper tube (11) is broken off and removed.
12. The method as claimed in the preamble of claim 11, characterized in that a cigarette paper sheet is wrapped around the tobacco portion (13) while leaving the conditioning member (15) attached to an end face of the tobacco portion (13) exposed, whereafter the paper sheet is glued along a longitudinal seam as known per se, and that subsequently the conditioning member (15) is broken off and removed.
