Abstract

A chaise lounge (10) usable for sunba-thing and other recreational purposes, comprises a stationary base (11) having a normally upright hood-like canopy (12) pivotally mounted rear-wardly thereon. The canopy (12) is adapted to be pivoted between a normal upright position to form a seating arrangement and a lowered posi-tion placing a back(26) of the canopy (12) in alignment with a top of the base (11). A control system includes at least one extensible and re-tracfable strut (15) or an electric motor (65) con-nected to an actuating mechanism (15') for relea-sably holding and locking the canopy (12) in a selected position between its upright and lowered positions in response to selective activation of the motor (65).
