Abstract
The present invention relates to a decorative element for use with a chain link fence and a method for producing the decorative element. The decorative element includes a pair of galvanized steel wires and a pair of pvc film strips. The strips are cut to have a needle-like appearance and are twisted longitudinally around the two wires. The twisted wires and strips are cut to a predetermined length for insertion into the chain link fence. The length of the decorative element is determined to accommodate the height of the chain link fence. In addition, the film strips are bent with respect to the lateral axis of the element to provide for a V-shaped appearance and a more real-like hedge appearance for the chain link fence.
Description
~ 20687 67 DECORATIVE ELEMENT FOR USE WITH CHAIN LINK FENCE
The present invention relates to a decorative element for use with a chain link fence and a method for providing the same.
In particular, the present invention provides for producing a hedge-like structure in combination with a chain link fence.
It is known in the prior art to make hedge structures for use in a chain link fence. United States patent 203,545 to Jenkins teaches a hedge fence. Other such constructions are disclosed in United States patents 2,802,645; 3,572,640;
4,512,556 and 4,872,647.
While these prior art proposals disclose various hedge-like structures, none provide for a realistic hedge-like appearance.
In particular, the V-shaped flair of a real hedge is absent from such structures. Thus, while these patents all show structures for use in hedge-like decorative elements in combination with a chain link fence, it would be desirable to produce one which would provide for a realistic hedge-like appearance.
SummarY of the Invention Hence with the foregoing in mind, it is a principal aspect of the present invention to provide for a decorative element for use with a chain link fence which provides for a more realistic hedge-like appearance and thus avoids the drawbacks associated with the aforementioned prior art proposals.
It is further an aspect of the present application to provide a decorative element for use with a chain link fence and a process for producing the same, which provides for a hedge-like appearance in which the decorative elements have a V-shaped contour that bends at an angle from the longitudinal -axis of the element in order to provide for a real hedge-like appearance to the chain link fence.
The present invention provides for a decorative element for use in a chain link fence to provide for a hedge-like appearance.
In particular, the present invention provides two strips of PVC
film twisted longitudinally around wires. Each PVC film is cut to have a needle-like appearance. The PVC films and the galvanized steel wires are twisted together and the film strips are bent from the longitudinal axis of the element to provide for a hedge-like appearance and the finished product is cut to a length to approximate the height of the chain link fence into which it will be inserted.
The invention further provides a process for creating a decorative element for use in a chain link fence, the steps comprising providing a pair of wires, each having a longitudinal axis and a pair of PVC film strips, cutting the strips by means of an S-K cutter, the S-K cutter being modified so that every other tooth is missing, the strips being cut perpendicular to the axis of the film by the S-K cutter to provide a thick needle-like, natural hedge appearance, twisting the film stripslongitudinally around the wires to provide a V-shaped appearance by means of a rotating chuck which moves towards a guide holding the wires and the cut film strips, the chuck gripping, rotating and pulling the wires and the film strips to produce a V-shaped appearance of the element and cutting the decorative element to a length to accommodate the chain link fence height when inserted therein.
Other aspects of the invention will become apparent from the following disclosure and drawings.
-Brief Description of the Drawings For a fuller understanding of the nature and the objects of the invention, reference should be had to the following detailed description and also in connection with the accompanying drawings in which;
Fig. 1 shows the decorative element partially completed;
Fig. 2 shows the machinery for producing the decorative element of the present invention; and Fig. 3 shows the finished product of the decorative element being inserted into a chain link fence.
Description of the Preferred Embodiment As can be seen from Fig. 1, the present invention provides for two film strips 2 and 3 which were used in forming the decorative element 1. The film strips 2 and 3 are preferably made from an embossed non-shiny film which better retains its shape after twisting and pulling than non-embossed film. In addition, the two galvanized steel wires 4,5 are also used in forming the decorative element 1. As can be seen, the film strips are cut to provide for a needle-like appearance. The films are cut by means of an S-K cutter to provide for a thicker hedge and thus a more natural look. The films are cut perpendicular to their axes by an S-K cutter which is preferably modified so that every other tooth is omitted, thereby creating a thicker, fuller hedge look. These films are twisted about the longitudinal axis of the wires with the cutting edges having a V--shaped contour as shown in Fig. 1 so that they bent away from the longitudinal axis of the wires 4,5.
As shown in Fig. 2, two PVC film strips 2,3 are fed into cutting rollers 6 and then guide rollers. Subsequent to that, two galvanized steel wires are added. The cutting rollers producing needle like appearance on the PVC film. The fed material passes through a series of guide rollers 7 where it is strung with the two galvanized steel wires 4,5 at 8. The PVC
film and the galvanized steel wires are then inserted into a rotating or twisting chuck 9 which twists the wires and PVC film strips while at the same time pulling the material along a 10 meter long rail. The twisting chuck 9 moves to the guide and picks up the wires and films and rotates them as it moves away from the guide thereby creating the V-shaped appearance of the film. The finished strips of material are then cut into finished lengths to accommodate the height of the chain link fence they will be inserted into as shown in Fig. 3. As can be seen from Fig. 3, each decorative element is inserted into a chain link fence. When all the decorative elements are inserted through the chain link fence, a hedge-like appearance is created.
We do not limit ourselves to any particular details of constructions set forth in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, as the same refers to and sets forth only certain embodiments of the invention and it is observed that the same may be modified without departing from the spirit and scope of the claimed invention.
