Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE

The hand brush is specially shaped for cleaning cylindrical vessels whereby its gripping handle (31) is rotatable and mounted at the free end of a crank arm (34) vertically attached to a stem section (35'). The bristle body of the brush can be concentric to the rotational axis or comprise a serpentine shaped stem body (35), (Fig. 2a).

The defined objective is attained by the present invention in that the rotational axis of the gripping handle is arranged parallel to a stem section of the bristle carrier and the rotating handle on the free end of a stem section arranged vertically to and rigidly connected with a crank arm, whereby advantageously the hand brush is so formed that the rotational axis of the gripping handle is also outside the bristles of the bristle carrier.

By attaching the rotating handle to a crank arm arranged vertically to the stem section of the bristle carrier, the tilting moment applied to the bristle carrier when turning the brush is kept to a minimum. This is an ess~ntial feature of the hand brush as described herein when compared to the kno~ -bottle brushes in which the bearing point of the gripping h~
is axially farther away from the longitudinal axis of the bristle carrier. Particularly when cleaning easily broken glasses, however, it is important that the radial forces which cause the bristle carrier to be tilted about its longitudinal axis should be kept to a minimum.

With hand brushes for cleaning handle glasses and handle jugs, the bristle carrier of the hand brush can advantageously be rotationally symmetrical, extend over the whole depth of the cylindrical vessel to be cleaned and usefully exhibit punched holes around its circumference to accept bristle bunches. The gripping handle can usefully exhibit a central hole fitting over a rigid bearing spigot on the crank arm for example, simply clipping to the bearing spigot of the crank arm in a production favorable manner.

For cylindrical vessels free of impeding projections as is particularly the case with glasses, the bristle carrier of the hand brush formed according to the invention can advantageously comprise a serpentine shaped rod fitted with bristles whereby at least one of the serpentine curves is of a length which corresponds at least to the height of the cylindrical vessel to be cleaned. To accommodate various impediments on the cylindrical vessel and to adapt to vessels of unequal diameters, the rod can usefully be flexible in construction and, with the exception of an end section forming the stem section of the bristle carrier and/or the crank arm, be fitted with bristles along its whole length. With as few as two serpentine curves, such a hand brush can optionally be used not only to clean the inside of the glass but also simultaneously the inside of the glass and at least the largest part of the outer wall of the glass by operating the eccentrically arranged rotating handle.
If the free end section of the bristle carrier is kept shorter than the adjacent serpentine curve, the whole of the outer wall of the glass or beaker will not be reached by the brush but the glass or beaker can be held by its base without the brush touching the hand holding said glass or beaker.

With a brush fitted with three serpentine curves the whole of the outside wall of the glass or beaker can be reached by the bristles whereby the relatively soft bristles used for cleaning glasses brushing over the fingers of the hand holding the glass can be accepted. In any case, the hand brush with the serpentine shaped bristle carrier will thoroughly clean the most strongly soiled upper edge of the glasses and beakers both inside and out.

There follows an explanation of examples of hand brushes according to the invention with reference to the attached drawings.

Details are shown in:

Fig. 1 is an initial example o~ a hand brush inserted into a handle beaker shown in cross-section;

Fig. 2a and 2b are second examples of a hand brush being applied in two different positions to a straight glass; and Fig. 3a and 3b are third examples of a hand brush being applied in two different positions to a ~traight gla5s.

Fig. 1 shows a cross-section through a handle beaker 10 for coffee, tea or beer, with a hand brush 11 inserted to clean the handle beaker. The hand brush 11 exhibits a cylindrical bristle carrier 12 which is partially fitted with punched holes, in each of which a bristle bunch 14 has been inserted. The cylindrical bristle carrier 12 exhibits at one of its ends a stem section 15 which is formed in one piece with the crank arm 17 running at right angles to the longitudinal axis 16 of the bristle carrier and its stem section 15. At the free end of the crank arm 17 a bearing spigot 18 is arranged parallel to the longitudinal axis of the brush body 16, the axis 19 of said spigot being outside the bristle carrier and its bristle bunches 14. The flat gripping handle 20 is rotatably mounted, its hole 21 fitting over the bearing spigot 18 and secured there by the annual bead rims 22 which engage in retention grooves in the rotating gripping handle 20. The whole brush 11 can be suspended by the hole 23 of the rotating handle 20.

Figs. 2a and 2b show another type of hand brush 30 for cleaning beakers, jugs and straiyht glasses. With this brush, the rotating yripping handle 31 is so arranged on the rod 32 that its rotational axis is outside the bristles 39 of the hand brush.
The rod 32 is connected by a transversely arranged crank arm 34 to the stem section 35~ of a serpentine looped brush 36 shaped to form two serpentine loops 37 and 38. The brush ~an be formed as one piece with the crank arm 34 and also as one piece with the stem section 35' and a serpentine shaped rod section 35 carrying the bristles 39 of the looped brush 36. The end section 40 of the rod body 35 is shorter than the adjacent serpentine loop 37 which reaches ts the bottom of a straight glass 41. The rod body 35 with its stem section 35' and its end section 40 is flexible at least in the curved section of the serpentine loops 37 and 38.

In Fig. 2a the whole looped brush 36 is inserted into the inside of the straight glass 41 with the effect that the inner wall of the straight glass 41 is cleaned when the rotary bearing mounted gripping handle 31 of the brush 30 is turned. In Fig. 2b the hand brush 30 is applied such that bristle carrying end section 40 of the rod body 35 contacts the outer wall of the straight glass 41 while the remaining section with the serpentine loop 37 projects into the inside of the straight glass 41. With this arrangement of the hand brush 30 a large part of the outer wall of the straight glass 41 from the upper edge 42 downwards is cleaned in addition to the inner wall of the straight glass 41 whereby the straight glass can be held by hand by the base which is not reached by the brush.

Figs. 3a and 3b show a form of serpentine hand brush 50 with three serpentine loops 57, 58, and 63. Here again the serpentine shaped rod 55, with the bris~les 49 partially indicated schematically, is made of a flexible material at least in the region of the serpentine loops and has on its stem section 55' a rotating gripping handle 51 arranged on a transverse crank arm 54. The axis 53 of the gripping handle 51 is located again outside the brush body 56 of the hand brush 50.

With the hand brush 50 the inner wall and the whole of the outer wall of a handleless beaker or a straight glass 61 can be cleaned simultaneously whereby the brush can be applied in two different positions. Fig. 3a shows a position preferred for delicate glassware in which only the m~ddle part of the brush body 56 incorporating the serpentine loop 5~ projects into the straight glass 61 while the other serpentine loops 57 and 63 extend over the lip 62 of the straight glass 61 and across the outer face of the straight glass 61. With the hand brush 50 in this position, the bristle pressure on the inside wall of the straight glass 61 is smaller than with the position shown in Fig.

glass 61 and only the serpentine loop 57 extends over the lip 62 of the straight glass 61 and across the outer face of the straight glass 61 which is covered by the bristles 49 over the whole height of the straight glass.

on all the hand brushes 11, 30 and 55, the weight distribution is so selected that the weight of the rotating gripping handles 20, 31 or 51 is noticeably less than the weight of the remainder of the brush. Through this and by the crank arms 17, 34, and 54 being arranged at right angles, a light operation of the brush with one rotation of the whole brush body ensures that only low tiling forces are applied to the bristle body.

Claims (12)

1. A hand brush for cleaning cylindrical vessels in particular beakers and glasses with a bristle carrier and a rotating gripping handle, the rotational axis of which is not concentric with the brush body wherein the rotational axis (19,33,53) of the gripping handle (20,32,51) is arranged parallel to a stem section (15,35',55') of the bristle carrier (12,35,55) and the rotating gripping handle (20,31,51) is mounted on the free end of a crank arm (17,34,54) arranged vertically to the stem section (15,35',55') and rigidly connected to said stem section.
2. The hand brush as in Claim 1, wherein the rotational axis (19,33,53) of the gripping handle (20,31,51) lies outside the bristles (14,39,59) of the bristle carrier (12,36,56).
3. The hand brush as in Claims 1 or 2, wherein the crank arm (17,34,54) is formed in one piece with the stem section (15,35',55') of the bristle carrier (12,36,56).
4. The hand brush as in one of Claims 1 to 3, wherein the gripping handle (20) is provided with a bearing hole (22) which fits over a rigid bearing spigot (18) of the crank arm (17).
5. The hand brush as in Claim 4, wherein the gripping handle (20) is clipped onto the bearing spigot (18) of the crank arm (17).
6. The hand brush as in one of the Claims 1 to 5, wherein the bristle carrier (12) is rotationally symmetrical and exhibits punched holes (13) around its circumference to accept bristle bunches (14) and which covers the whole depth of the cylindrical vessel (10) to be cleaned.

The hand brush as in one of the Claims 1 to 5, in which the bristle carrier (36, 56) comprises a serpentine shaped rod (35, 55) fitted with bristles (39, 59) at least one serpentine loop (37, 58) of which is of a length which corresponds at least to the height of the cylindrical vessel (41, 61) to be cleaned.
8. The hand brush as in Claim 7, wherein the rod (35,55) is flexible and, with the exception of the stem section (35',55') of the bristle carrier (36,56) and/or the end section forming the crank arm (34,54) is fitted with bristles (39,59) over its whole length.
9. The hand brush as in Claim 7 or 8, wherein the bristle carrier (56) is shaped into three serpentine loops (57,58,63) in such a way that its free end is directed towards the gripping handle (51).
10. The hand brush as in one of the Claims 7 to 9, wherein the free end section (40,60) of the bristle carrier (36,56) is shorter than its adjacent serpentine loop (37,58).
11. The hand brush as in one of the Claims 1 to 10, wherein the weight of the rotating gripping handle (20,31,51) is noticeably less than the weight of the remainder of the brush (11,30,50).
12. The hand brush as in one of the Claims 1 to 11, wherein the gripping handle (20,31,51) is formed as a flat body.
