Abstract
A deicing composition which includes NaCl and an orthophosphate selected from the group consisting of MgHPO4, Na2HPO4, K2HPO4, (NH4)2HPO4, hydrated forms thereof and mixtures thereof. When the monohydrogen orthophosphate has the alkali metal ions or ammonium cation, the deicing composition includes a water soluble magnesium salt. A method of deicing using the deicing composition also is described.
