Abstract

ABSTRACT:
The ash collector and disposal unit system is an invention that collects ash, soot, and other debris from fireplaces, stoves & furnaces. It then lets the person carry the ashes to a special covered container for disposal. The person inserts the collector through a hole in the lid of this container. The collector will then release all the soot and ash through a mechanism that will open a rear door of the collector. The invention will prevent ash from blowing out, getting hands dirty or burnt anytime during this process.

Description

ABSTRACT:
The ash collector and disposal unit system is an invention that collects ash, soot, and other debris frvm f ~ s, stoves & furnaces. It then lets the person carry the ashes to a special ____ :
covered container for disposal. The person inserts the collector through a hole in the lid of this container. The collector will then release all the soot and ash through a mechanism that will open a rear door of the collector. The invention will prevent ash from blowing out, gettin~ hands dirty or burnt anytime during this process.

DIS~LOSURE:
For a large number of years, wood burnin~ stoves and ~5 fireplaces have become common in most homes as a mesns to enhance .
the surroundings, or as a low cost means of heating. Howzve~r, de~ices to help in the cleaning and disposal of the ashes, soot, and other debris has not progressed much in ways to insure that the cleaning of the stoves, transporting, and the disposing of the remains, does not result in spreading the remains all over the surroundings. Many different types of scoops to remove the remains do exist, but most do not protect the cleaner from getting dirty or spreading the remains while transporting the scoop, and none exit in facilitating to empty the scoop without dust ash being blown everywhere.

It is the ob~ect of the present 1nvention to provlde an efficient and clean mechanlsm of collecting, transporting, and disposirlg of the residues created in fireplaces, stoves, and furnaces.

Brlef description of the Drawings:
_ Fig. 1 is a plan view vf the ash collector unit placed into the hole of the lid wi-th the rear door open and showing how the free cover is to be placed.
Flg. 2 is an isometric view of the front of the ash collector unit with the rear door closed and the ~ront eover to be placed.
~ig. 3 is an isometric view of the rear of the ash collector unit with the rear door open.
Fi~. 4 is an isometric view of the lid of the ash disposal system with the flap open.

Description of the pre~erred embodimsnt:
A preferred embodiment of the present invention is herein describecl in the plan view of Flg 1. The ash remover unit has a free cover 1 with a knob handle. The body 2, is designed to have a wide opening and narrow end, and a leading ecl~e to help with the scooping of the ashes. A handle 4 is attached to the body 2. The back piece 3 is attached to a spring 5 to which a lon~ hook 6 is attached. The long hook 6 protrudes the body 2 through a hole located between the connection of handle 4 and the symmetrical centre of body 2.
Hook 6, sprin~ 5, back piece 3 are arranged so that the hook 7 controls the openin~ and closing of rear door 3 onto the body 2.
Once the rear door 3 is closed, the hook-spring arran~ement (6 &
5) can be stretched to lock onto the ~ront of handle 4. ~andle ~, body 2, rear door 3, and cover 1 can be made out of bent sheet metal. Cover 1 and rear door 5 must fit over the ends of body 2 to ensure a tight fit.
Licl 8 can be made ou-t of any thin material, such as sheet metal, so long as the outer perlmeter will cover the container (not shown) -the ashes are to be disposed into. The hole in the centre "~

of lid 8 will be cut -to approximately the ~ame symmetrical dimension~ as rear door 3 in order to get the collector unit to fit as shown in ~ig. 1. A flap 10 with a knob 11 are attached to lid 8 by a hinge 9.
The length of body ~ measures approximately 11" on the long edge with an opening width of 10" and height of 5". The end narrows down to approximately a 5" x 5" opening. All remaining dimensions are proportionally based and are only exemplary.
