La présente invention se rapporte à un collier couvre-sol du type comprenant un collier protecteur pour arbres ou autres plantations afin de les protéger de la végétation envahissante.

DESCRIPTION DE L'ART ANTERIEUR

L'entretien des plantations forestières dans une optique d'élimination des pratiques chimiques est présentement en pleine effervescence.

Ainsi, l'emploi de produits herbicides est de plus en plus limité
et par conséquent, la possibilité de reboiser les grandes superficies improductives mais à haut potentiel forestier diminue grandement. En effet, la compétition herbacée dans des sols riches est néfaste au point d'éliminer complètement les semis de conifères ou de feuillus l'année suivant leur repiquage en terrain forestier.
Aussi, l'emploi de produits chimiques de type herbicide de synthèse, en plus de tous les inconvénients connus, n'a aucun effet sur certains types d'herbacés.

De plus, l'entretien de plantations forestières de petite, moyenne et grande échelles doit être rapide et efficace, de façon à
contrôler autant la compétition ligneuse qu'herbacée, et doit être en plus adaptable à tout genre de terrains, et ce, à des coûts raisonnables.

En conséquence, il était nécessaire de développer des méthodes de culture préventive du type paillis, couvre-sol, etc.

Néanmoins, les protecteurs de sol qui existent actuellement sont difficiles d'utilisation et requièrent un certain temps 20~0~8 d'installation. Par conséquent, il est difficile d'atteindre un bon rendement de fa,con à diminuer le co~t de revient de ces protecteurs.

Parmi ces antériorités, nous retrouvons les brevets américain nos 4,403,443 (Valente) et 4,395,845 (Markowitz) qui nous présentent un protecteur de terre pour utilisation dans un pot à fleurs.

Le brevet américain no 2,822,644 (Berger) nous présente un 1~ protecteur de plantations destiné à conserver de l'humidité dans le sol autour de la base de ladite plantation.

Le brevet canadien no 859,392 (Limar) nous divulgue un protecteur d'arbres de forme sphérique, comprenant généralement deux sections qui s'emboftent l'une dans l'autre par l'intermédiaire de deux languettes. Tel que mentionné précédemment, le fait d'utiliser deux sections augmente le temps nécessaire à l'installation du protecteur et nécessite une main-d'oeuvre spécialisee pour l'installation.
Le brevet américain no 3,305,969 (Mattson) nous présente un protecteur d'arbres de forme sphérique comprenant une fente s'étendant de l'extérieur vers l'ouverture intérieure et comprenant une inclinaison pour faciliter un mouvement des eaux de pluie vers l'intérieur de l'ouverture centrale. Ce protecteur est destiné à
augmenter la quantité d'eau dirigee vers les racines de l'arbre.
Néanmoins, en ce faisant, une quantité excessive d'eau se retrouve aux racines et augmente les chances de pourrissement.

Le brevet américain no 3,755,965 (Emery) nous presente un protecteur d'arbres comprenant un disque fixe au sol par l'intermédiaire de supports s'étendant verticalement audit protecteur. 20A04 ~ 8 FIELD OF THE INVENTION

DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIOR ART

Among these prior art, we find the American patents 4,403,443 (Valente) and 4,395,845 (Markowitz) who present us an earth protector for use in a flowerpot.

U.S. Patent No. 2,822,644 (Berger) presents a 1 ~ plant protector intended to conserve moisture in the soil around the base of the said plantation.

Canadian Patent No. 859,392 (Limar) discloses a protector of spherical trees, generally comprising two sections which fit into each other through two tabs. As mentioned earlier, using two sections increases the time required to install the protective and requires specialized labor to the installation.
US Patent No. 3,305,969 (Mattson) presents a tree protector of spherical shape comprising a slot extending from the exterior to the interior opening and comprising an inclination to facilitate movement of rainwater towards inside the central opening. This protector is intended for increase the amount of water directed to the roots of the tree.
However, in doing so, an excessive amount of water is found at the roots and increases the chances of rotting.

American patent no. 3,755,965 (Emery) presents a tree protector comprising a disc fixed to the ground by through supports extending vertically to said protective.

Le brevet américain no 3,005,287 (Dudley) nous présente un moyen pour prévenir la croissance des végétations nuisibles. Le systeme est néanmoins complexe et ne possède pas les caractéristiques que l'on retrouve dans la présente invention.

Le brevet américain no. 2,949,698 (Downey et al) divulgue un paillis utilisé pour limiter l'évaporation autour du tronc de l'arbre. Ce paillis comprend une ouverture permettant l'insertion autour du tronc de l'arbre. Ce paillis est utilisé pour les arbres de certaines dimensions.

BREVE DESCRIPTION DE L'INVENTION

La présente invention est utilisée pour permettre une meilleure croissance des petits arbres ou autres plantations du même genre en empêchant une croissance excessive des végétations envahissantes qui pourraient lui nuire. Le paillis de la présente invention est adapté de façon à entourer l'arbre pour le protéger et comprend généralement une surface plane ayant deux ouvertures, une première ouverture généralement située au centre de la surface plane et une seconde ouverture qui s'étend généralement perpendiculairement à
l'ouverture du centre. Le paillis peut être fabriqué à partir de matières plastiques ou de papier recyclé d'une certaine épaisseur.
La dimension de la surface plane dépendra de l'usage que l'on désire en faire. La première ouverture devra être suffisamment grande pour ne pas créer de blessures au tronc de l'arbre et en 2 ~

même temps, permettre un bon appui au sol. La seconde ouverture, pour sa part, est destinée à permettre une certaine croissance de végétation, de façon à protéger l'arbre dans sa croissance. Ainsi, le problème co~mun que l'on retrouve dans les paillis actuels est qu'aucune végétation n'est possible autour de l'arbre et ce dernier se trouve à souffrir des éléments, soit les vents et l'insolation.
De plus, la seconde ouverture permet une bonne insertion du paillis autour de l'arbre et par conséquent, un temps considérable est sauvé lors de l'installation.

OBJETS DE LA PRESENTE INVENTION

Un objet de la présente invention est d'obtenir un protecteur nouveau et amélioré pour permettre une croissance rapide des plantations et autres végétations.

Un autre objet de la présente invention est de permettre un environnement favorable au développement de ladite végétation en fournissant un certain degré d'humidité autour de ladite vegétation.

Un autre objet de la présente invention est de permettre une certaine croissance d'autres végétations permettant une protection à l'arbre que l'on désire protéger.

Un autre objet de la présente invention est de fabriquer un protecteur d'arbres ou autres végétations du même genre qui s'installe facilement et qui est économique de fabrication.
Un autre objet de la présente invention est de fournir un paillis limitant l'évaporation d'humidité contenue au 501.

2 ~ 4 8 Lesdits objets peuvent être atteints par la fabrication d'un paillis pour la protection de plantations, comprenant:

- une surface généralement plane et délimitée par un contour, ladite surface comprenant une première ouverture généralement au centre de ladite surface pour recevoir le tronc de ladite plantation;

- une seconde ouverture s'étendant entre ladite premiere ouverture et ledit contour de ladite surface;

- dans lequel ladite seconde ouverture permet l'insertion dudit paillis autour de ladite plantation et permet également la croissance d'une végétation destinée à protéger ladite plantation.

DESCRIPTION D'UNE INCARNATION PREFEREE DE L'INVENTION

En se référant maintenant à la figure 1, nous retrouvons le paillis 5, en accord avec la présente invention, qui comprend généralement une surface généralement plane 10, incluant une première ouverture 15 et une seconde ouverture 20 s'étendant entre la periphérie 25 de ladite surface 10 et la première ouverture 15.

Ladite seconde ouverture 20 est de forme généralement rectangulaire et dans une réalisation préférée de l'invention, est de même largeur que ladite première ouverture 15. Il va sans dire qu'il faut que la largeur de ladite seconde ouverture devra être au moins égale au diametre du tronc de la plantation que l'on désire protéger.

A la figure 1, la réalisation de l'invention est illustrée pour une surface plane 10 de forme généralement circulaire. Il est important de mentionner que cette surface plane peut être réalisée en d'autres formes. Pour s'assurer un positionnement rigide autour de la plantation, le paillis 5 peut comprendre une pluralité de trous d'ancrage 30 placés sur la périphérie 25 du paillis 5. Ces trous d'ancrage 30 permettent l'insertion de tiges de retenue 35 ou tout autre système de fixation adéquat.

Le paillis 5 peut comprendre une paroi s'étendant généralement vers le sol et vers la paroi extérieure 40 pour permettre une insertion du paillis 5 dans le sol et ainsi de s'assurer de sa stabilité.
La première ouverture 15 devra préférablement comprendre également des parois 45 dirigées vers le sol de façon à protéger le tronc des blessures.

La figure 3, pour sa part, nous présente une seconde réalisation de l'invention, dans laquelle la seconde ouverture 20 a été
modifiée de façon à laisser une plus grande surface de croissance de la végétation pour permettre une meilleure protection à la plantation. La forme et l'étendue de la surface nécessaire pour la seconde ouverture 20 devront être calculées en tenant compte du type de plantation autour duquel le paillis est placé et les eléments du milieu.
' ' Tel que mentionné précédemment, un des objets principal de ladite invention est la rapidité a laquelle cette derniere peut être installée autour d'une plantation à protéger. Par conséquent, il est important ici de mentionner la façon de procéder pour son installation. L'utilisateur n'aura qu'à insérer le paillis autour du tronc de la plantation à protéger en orientant bien sûr la fente dans la direction où il sera nécessaire que cette dernière puisse obtenir une protection par la croissance de la végétation.

En se référant à la figure 4, on retrouve une illustration de l'utilisation de la présente invention pour la protection d'un plant généralement référé par le numéro 50. Dans cette illustration, la fente 20 a été orientée pour protéger la plantation 50 des éléments par la croissance de la végétation 55.
Il est important de mentionner que le paillis 5 peut comprendre certains moyens pour le transporter de façon a faciliter son utilisation qui, quelquefois, sera nécessaire dans des milieux difficiles, tel qu'en forêt.
Le paillis pourra être fabriqué de matières plastiques, dont l'épaisseur dépendra du poids que l'on désire obtenir, ainsi que de son utilisation. D'autres matériaux pourront être utilisés tels que le carton ou le papier recyclé.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The present invention is used to allow better growth of small trees or similar plantings by preventing excessive growth of invasive vegetation that could harm him. The mulch of the present invention is adapted to surround the tree to protect it and includes generally a flat surface with two openings, a first opening generally located in the center of the flat surface and a second opening which generally extends perpendicular to the opening of the center. Mulch can be made from plastics or recycled paper of a certain thickness.
The size of the flat surface will depend on the use that one want to do it. The first opening should be enough great not to cause injury to the tree trunk and 2 ~

at the same time, allow good support on the ground. The second opening, for its part, is intended to allow a certain growth of vegetation, so as to protect the tree in its growth. So, the common problem that we find in current mulch is no vegetation is possible around the tree and the latter is suffering from the elements of wind and sunstroke.
In addition, the second opening allows good mulch insertion around the tree and therefore considerable time is saved during installation.

OBJECTS OF THE PRESENT INVENTION

An object of the present invention is to obtain a protector new and improved to allow rapid growth of plantations and other vegetation.

Another object of the present invention is to allow a favorable environment for the development of said vegetation in providing a certain degree of humidity around said vegetation.

Another object of the present invention is to allow a certain growth of other vegetation allowing protection to the tree you want to protect.

Another object of the present invention is to make a protector of trees or other similar vegetation which installs easily and is economical to manufacture.
Another object of the present invention is to provide mulch limiting the evaporation of moisture contained in 501.

DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION

Referring now to Figure 1, we find the mulch 5, in accordance with the present invention, which generally comprises a generally planar surface 10, including a first opening 15 and a second opening 20 extending between the periphery 25 of said surface 10 and the first opening 15.

Said second opening 20 is generally rectangular in shape and in a preferred embodiment of the invention, is likewise width as said first opening 15. It goes without saying that it the width of said second opening must be at least equal to the diameter of the trunk of the plantation you want protect.

In Figure 1, the embodiment of the invention is illustrated for a flat surface 10 of generally circular shape. It is important to mention that this flat surface can be achieved in other forms. To ensure rigid positioning around of the plantation, the mulch 5 can comprise a plurality of anchor holes 30 placed on the periphery 25 of the mulch 5. These anchor holes 30 allow the insertion of retaining rods 35 or any other suitable fastening system.

The mulch 5 may include a wall generally extending towards the ground and towards the outer wall 40 to allow insertion 5 mulch in the soil and thus ensure its stability.
The first opening 15 should preferably also include walls 45 directed towards the ground so as to protect the trunk from injuries.

Figure 3, for its part, presents a second embodiment of the invention, in which the second opening 20 has been modified to leave a larger growth area vegetation to allow better protection to the planting. The shape and extent of the area required for the second opening 20 must be calculated taking into account the type of plantation around which the mulch is placed and the middle elements.
'' As previously mentioned, one of the main objects of said invention is how quickly this can be installed around a plantation to be protected. Consequently, he is important here to mention how to proceed for its installation. The user will only have to insert the mulch around of the trunk of the plantation to be protected, of course by orienting the slot in the direction where it will be necessary that the latter can obtain protection by growing vegetation.

Referring to Figure 4, there is an illustration of the use of the present invention for the protection of a plant generally referred to by number 50. In this illustration, the slot 20 has been oriented to protect the planting 50 elements by growing vegetation 55.
It is important to mention that mulch 5 may include certain means of transporting it so as to facilitate its use which will sometimes be necessary in environments difficult, such as in the forest.
The mulch can be made of plastics, including the thickness will depend on the weight that one wishes to obtain, as well as of its use. Other materials may be used such than cardboard or recycled paper.

Claims

1. A mulch for the protection of plantations, comprising:

- a generally flat surface delimited by a contour, said surface comprising a first opening generally in the center of said surface to receive the trunk of said plantation;

- a second opening extending between said first opening and said contour of said surface;

wherein said second opening allows the insertion of said mulch around said plantation and also allows the growth of vegetation intended to protect said planting.

2. A mulch as described in claim 1, wherein the surface is generally circular in shape.

3. A mulch as described in claim 1, wherein said first opening is generally in shape circular.

4. A mulch as described in claim 1, made of plastic material.

5. A mulch as described in claim 1, made of recycled materials.

6. A mulch as described in claim 1, made of recyclable materials.

7. A mulch as described in claim 1, made of biodegradable materials.

8. A mulch for the protection of plantations, comprising:

- a generally flat surface delimited by a contour, said surface comprising a first opening generally in the center of said surface to receive the trunk of said plantation;

- a second opening extending between said first opening and said contour of said surface;

wherein said second opening allows the insertion of said mulch around said plantation and also allows the growth of vegetation intended to protect said plantation and in which the surface is generally in shape circular and wherein said first opening is generally circular in shape.

9. A mulch as described in claim 8, and made of recyclable materials.
