Abstract

ABSTRACT

The invention describes a pot made of a material suitable for microwave-use, preferably of glass, with a handle glued to it. The handle is secured to the pot by an interlocking connection, in addition to being glued to it. In this regard, the interlocking connection can ideally be produced by two or more snap-in or clamping hooks on the handle which are inserted into appropriately designed locking sections of the pot. Even in the event that the adhesion detaches, this interlocking connection between the handle and the pot still guarantees that the connection between the handle and the pot is secure in practice.

Description

~2 ~

This invention concerns a pot made of a material suitable for microwave-use, preferably glass, to which a handle is glued.

Pots made from a material suitable for microwave-use, preferably glass, are designed for use in a microwave oven and in view of this purpose must not have any metal fastening elements for the handle.

In addition to those designs in which the handle is attached by means of a plastic tightening strap, pots of the type under discussion, to which the handle is glued on, have already been produced.

Over the course of time it can happen that the adhesion detaches as a result of the various factors affecting such pots during use.

If this happens while a pot filled with hot liquid is being handled, serious injuries may occur as a result of scalding.

The objective of this invention is to increase the safety of pots of the aforesaid type.

The invention fulfills this objective by the fact that the handle, in addition to being glued to the pot, is secured to it by an interlocking connection.

This measure ensures that even whsre the adhesion detaches, the handle and pot are still attached to one another and, therefore, the danger is practically eliminated that injuries and scaldings will occur as a result of hot liquid running out of the pot when the handle and pot separate.

~~ -~2~3~

Nevertheless, the user does notice that the adhesion has detached and, consequently, can see to it that the pot is replaced or that the necessary repairs are carried out.

A further idea of the invention provides that the handle is equipped with at least two snap-in or clamping hooks which interlock in the area of appropriately designed locking sections o~ the pot.

Such snap-in or clamping hooXs on the handle, on the one hand, and appropriately designed locking sections on the pot, on the other, represent an inexpensive, practical solution of the interlocking connection of the handle to the pot.

It is particularly suitable if the snap-in or clamping hooks are located at the top and bottom of the handle and are attached appropriately at the top and bottom edges of the pot.

This guarantees good leverage ratios and, accordingly, low specific stresses on the additional fastening area between the pot and the handle, which is especially important if an undesired detachment of the adhesion occurs.

In this regard, it is to be assumed that the adhesion is basically responsible for the secure connection of the handle to the pot and for absorbing the fo~ces occurring during the handling of the pot. The repeatedly mentioned additional securing of the handle to the pot is not provided primarily in order to absorb the holding forces but is intended in the last analysis to increase safety very gPnerally and, in particular, in the event of an undesired detachment of the adhesion.

~ D~

In this regard, a high specific stress in the interlocking connection area is to be avoided, especially in the case of pots manufactured from glass, which is specifically attained by the fact that the snap-in or clamping hooks are attached to the upper edge area of the pot, on the one hand, and to the lower edge area, on the other.

The attached drawing illustrates embodiments of the invention which are described below in more detail. They are:

Fig. 1 a vertical cross-section through a pot in accordance with the invention, Fig. 2 a vertical cross-section through a pot based on another embodiment of the invention, Fig. 3 a partial cross-section through the handle of the pot illustrated in Fig. 2 along the line III-III in Fig. 2, a snap-in or clamping hook located in the section area being illustrated in an unassembled state.

In both Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, reference number 10 designates a pot made of material suitable for use in a microwave oven, preferably glass, and reference nl~mber ll a handle glued to it.

Reference number 12 designates the adhesive area in each case.

In practise, adhesives are used whch are particularly suited for the relevant material combinations used - pot 10, on the one hand, and handle 11, on the other as 2 ~ S~ ~

well as for the intended purpose of the pot 10, which provides for it being used in a microwave oven.

In accordance with this invention, the handle 11 in the embodiments illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 is secured to the pot 10 by an interlocking connection, in addition to being glued to it.

Referring expressly to Fig. 1, the interlocking connection illustrated in this Figure between the handle 11 and the pot 10 shall now be described.

Fig. 1 shows that the handle 11 is equipped with two snap-in or clamping hooks 13, 14, these snap-in or clamping hooks 13 or 14 respectively interlocking in the area of the appropriately designed locking sections of the pot 10.

The snap-in or clamping hooks 13 and 14 are ideally located at the top and bottom of the handle 11 and attached correspondingly to the top and bottom edge areas of the pot 10.

In doing so, the top clamping hook 13 of the handle lO grips the top edge 15 encircling the pot 10. This top edge encircling the top has a bulge 16, at least in the locking section. The top snap-in or clamping hook 13 has a U-shaped cross-section and grips the edge bulge 16 mentioned above from behind with a free edge piece.

Ideally, the bottom snap-in or clamping hook 14 is curved and engages with a correspondingly curved indentation 18 in the area of the pot base 19.

For production reasons, the curved indentation 18 encircles the entire pot base 19.

~ ~ 2 ~

The bottom snap-in or clamping hook 14 of the handle 11, which is made entirely of plastic, is elastic, which, on the one hand, allows and facilitates the easy attachment of the handle 11 to the pot 10 and, on the other hand, ensures that the interlocking attachment of the handle 11 to the pot 10 is supported by elastic forces~

The form of construction of the invention illustrated in Fig. 2 corresponds to the form of construction in Fig.
1 insofar as the design of the top snap-in or clamping hook 13 of the handle 11 and its attachment to the pot 10 is concerned.

The pot 10 is again equipped with a curved indentation 18 in the area of the pot base 19 which also encircles the base for production reasons as in the form of construction in Fig. 1.

In the form of construction in Fig. 2, the bottom snap-in or clamping hook 14 is designed as a separate component and inserted into a recess 20 with laterally arranged notches 21 in the bottom of the handle 1. The top of the snap-in or clamping hook 14 which is inserted into the recess 20 is eguipped with appropriately shaped teeth 22 and is otherwise virtually undetachable from the handle 11 once it is inserted.

The notches 21 in the area of the recess 20 and the teeth 22 on the snap-in or clamping hook 14 allow the bottom snap-in or clamping hook to be attached at different insertion positions relative to the handle 11, so that it is possible to simply offset any given variations in height such as occur in the manufacture of po$ 10, especially those made of glass.

-6- ~J~ 4 The snap-in or clamping hook 14 illustrated in the form o~ construction in Fig. 2 is also made of plastic and has a certain elasticity, so that in addition to the variation offset there is contact pressure between both snap-in or clamping hooks 13 and 14 and the pot 10.

The two forms of construction in Fig. 1 and 2 are merely examples of the adhesive-supporting interlocking connections between the handle 11 and the pot 10.

For example, yoing beyond the illustrated embodiments, another similar snap-in or clamping hook can be provided in the central area of the handle 11 between the two snap-in or clamping hooks 13 and 14.

It is also conceivable that both snap-in or clamping hooks 13 and 14 be designed as separate components and interlock with the handle 11 in accordance with the embodiments of the snap-in or clamping hook 14 illustrated in Fig. 2.
