Abstract
Abstract A device for branch trimming of a tree trunk comprises a two-part tubular construction for embracing the tree trunk.
The two parts have cutting edges at one end, and are pivotally interconnected at the other end. The two parts are resiliently urged together to maintain the device in contact with the trunk even when the diameter of the trunk varies.

Description
`` 1 324060 DEVICE FOR BRANCH TRIMMING OF TREE
The object for the invention is a device for branch trimming of a tree trunk.
When felling trees, they must be branch trimmed, i.e. the branches must be cut off. When doing the work manually, for instance with a motor chain saw, or some other working tool, the work is slow and dangerous to perform. The tree must be turned when branch trimming, and in the wintertime the trunk and the branches are at least partly covered by the snow, and the work is troublesome. ~achines are known that fell, branch . trim and cut trees to length. This kind of machine is expensive and the use of them is limited to relatively extensive felling tracts.
-~.
The aim of the present invention is to provide a device lS for branch trimming of a tree, that is suitable for use in all kinds of conditions, and which, with the help of a machine can branch trim trees safely and quickly. It is also desired to provide a device that is simple in structure, favourable to produce, dependable in function and easy to use. Further the object of the invention is to provide a device with which ~ trees of different or varying diameter can easily be branch '`~ triDed.
The aim of the invention is achieved by a device for branch triD ing of a tree trunk, comprising a two-part tubular construction for embracing the tree trunk, the two parts having cutting edges at one end, means for pivotally interconnecting the parts together at the other end, and means ~` for resiliently urging the parts together to maintain the `~ device in contact with a trunk of varying diameter along its ~ 30 length.
~ 324060 The invention is explained in more detail by referring to the attached drawing, which presents one application of a device in accordance with an embodiment of the invention assembled to readiness for branch trimming.
The drawing shows a two-part tubular construction formed from a channel shaped bottom part 2 with sides 3, and a cover part 4 and a fastening element 5.
The bottom part 2 has at both ends guiding plates lla, llb and the middle part of the sides 3 are lower than the ends. On the sides 3 there are brackets 12 for receiving the fastening element 5. At the end 8 of the sides there are recesses for pivotally mounting an end 7 of the cover part 4.
At the other end 6 of the cover part 4 there are guiding plates 13 and the top of the cover part 4 has a guide element 14 for the fastening element 5. The end 6 of the cover part 4 and the end 9 of the bottom part 2 are bevelled to form j cutting blades.
,~, When u~ing the device the lower part is slipped underneath the tree trunk in such a way that the cutting end 9 faces the branches to be trimmed off. The cover part 4 is ~S pivotally connected with the lower part 2 at ths end 7. The wire cable 5 is then drawn through the elements 12 and 14 and ~ the two ends of the wire cable 5 are fastened to stationary i objects, for instance other trees. After this the butt end of the trunk of the tree is attached to a pulling mechanism 80 that the tree trunk is dragged relative to the device. The device remains in place and the tree is moved through it. The cutting edges of the two parts of the device trim off all the branches. The wire cable 5 constantly presses the cover part 4 in the direction of the bottom part 2, so that when the diameter of the tree trunk decreases the device iB maintained in contact with the tree trunk and branch trimming still takes place with egual accuracy. As is necessary for this purpose .
