Abstract

ABSTRACT
The invention relates to a discharge apparatus operating in connection with a reservoir and used more particularly to discharge material from a bleaching tower employed in the cellulose industry, wherein a rotating arm located in the region of the floor of the reservoir having a central discharging arrangement serves to convey to such central discharging arrangement the material to be dis-charged. The arm is connected to a rotating discharge pipe that extends through the reservoir floor.

Description

2 ~ ~

The inven-tion relates to a discharging apparatus for use in a reservoir and which may be employed~ more particularly, in the cellulose industry, wherein a ro-tating arm serving to displace to -the central discharge site the material -to be discharged ls wi-thin -the zone of the reservoir floor having central discharging capability.
~ eservoirs capable of discharging material through the cen-tre of the floor with the assistance of a rotating displacement arm are known in the art;
the disadvantage of -this arrangement resides in the loca-tion of -the motive power ~or the displacement arm, which since it is in the axis of reservoir, it is likely to interrupt -the outflow of the ma-terial - 15 from the reservoir, depending on the type of material to be discharged.
A solu-tion -to solve this problem has been proposed. This solution comprises providing a central pipe serving at once for the discharge of material and the ro-tation of the displacement arm and featuring besides an unobstructed cross section, the ability to rotate and carry, for example, conveying ribs. This arrangement allows the pipe to convey material by itself. The main distinguishing feature of -the proposed discharging apparatus is, therefore, that the rotating arm is connected to a rotating discharge pipe protruding through the reservoir floor.
The following is a list of distinguishing features possessed by the discharging apparatus according to the invention, and which can be used singly or in combination:
.
~, 1 3~2~2 A pinion-drLven toothed ring connects with the dlscharge pipe Eor -the purpose of turning discharge pipe Eor -the purpose of turning discharge pipe and arm.
The toothed ring is suppor-ted by a ball-type slewing bearing and features an axial-symmetrical pinion drive, that can be provided by two diame-trically opposed pinions in particular.
The arm comprises a number of sections, and it is preferable tha-t a first section that sweeps through essentially the entire reservoir floor be intersected at righ-t angles by a shorter second section. Bent displacement blades in particular are disposed along such sectlons so as -to be able to advance material into the zone oE the displacement blades of -the second section. The spacing of the arms along the sections permits the material to be advanced toward -the central discharge site and then to be advanced further toward such site by the folIowing blade, which is located in a zone of the ; section diametrically opposed to the zone of the preceding blade.
The portion of the discharge pipe located inside the reservoir is formed by two~ diametrically opposed support members, which bear the mounting for the arm. The latter bears along its axis a deflector ; that, projecting toward -the inside of the reservoir, prevents the material to be discharged from falling directly in-tQ -the discharge pipe. Conveying ribs located on the inside of the discharge pipe project into the free cavity thereof, are arranged preferably at an angle to the radial direction and extend preferably below the lower end of the discharge pipe.
, ~, ~3~92 The invention shall next be described in ~- greater detail by means of drawings which illustrate a preEerred embodiment thereof and in which :
Figure 1 shows a vertical section taken along line A - A of Figure 3 through a reservoir Eloor having a discharge appara-tusi~
Figure 2 is a section taken along line ~ -B of Figure l;
Figure 3 is a view of the embodiment illus-trated ln Figure 1 in -the direction indicated by arrow X.
The embodiment is illustrated in Figure 1 in a scale larger than in Figures 2 or 3.
Arranged in the region of the floor inside a reservoir 1 possessing a sloping floor 2 is a displacement arm 3 featuring arms of unequal length that in-tersect at right angles to form a cross.
Displacement blades are carried by these arms and in such a way that the blades disposed along the longer arm are capable of sweeping ~hrough the peripheral zone of the~floor of the reservoir, while the blades disposed along the shorter arm are capable of sweeping through the cen-tral zone of the floor of the reservoir.
The arrangernent of the blades ~urthermore permits material to be advanced from one blade to the following blade along displacement arm 3, while the next blade lies diametrically opposi-te the preceding blade of the same arm. In Figure 3, blades 4-10 are arranged serially in the direction of displacement.
An examination of the arrangement of the displacement blades reveals further that the acuteness of the angle a-t which ~these blades are installed increases from the periphery to the centre. A deflector 11 in the form of pyramid having a quadratic base and which _3_ ~ 3~2~

projects toward the inside of reservoir 1 ls caxried in the middle of displac.ement 3; deflector 11 serves to laterally deflect away from the head of displace-men-t arm 3 the material to be discharged.
Displacemen-t arm 3 is bolted at 12 to a web 13 that bridges upstanding extensions 14, 15 of a discharge pipe 16 that extends axially downward beyond reservoir floor 2. Discharge pipe 16 features no openings in the ~one beneath reservoir floor 2.
:; 10 Due to the discontinuity of the pipe wall inside reservoir 1, and the fact that it is completely closed up a-t the lower end of the discharge pipe, such an arrangement permits displace-ment blades 7 and 10 to move material without impediment, into discharge pipe 16.
Two axial conveying ribs 17, 18 are mounted inside of discharge pipe 16 and extend below the wer end thereof. : :
The lower end of the discharge pipe 16 is rigidly connected -to a surrounding pipe 19 featuring annular grooves whichj although not illustrated in further detail, serve to accept the downwardly pulled reservoir floor. Surrounding pipe 19 furthermore carries~, parallel to the rotation plane of displace-~
ment arm 3, an annular plate 20 onto whose external rim is bolted a ring having external toothing, which : shall hereinafter: be referred to as a toothed ring 21, to which assembly is connected an inner ring of a ~: ball-type slewing bearing arrangement 22 that on the ~; 30 inside is connec-ted to toothed ring 21 and on theou-tside is supported upon a ring 23 that is bolted to a bed 24. This lmplies that the assembly consisting of displacement arm 3; web 13, extensions 14, 15;
discharge pipe 16; surrounding pipe 19; annular plate 20; toothed ring 21 is borne upon a bed in such a way _~_ ~1 3 ~ 2 as to be able to rotate. Figures 2 and 3 demonstrate that reservoir 1 is itself .suppor-ted upon four bearlng members 25. Bed 24 can-- but need not be --anchored -to -these bearing members 25 and features beneath dlscharge pipe 16 a chute 26 that is aligned wi-th the latter and into which conveyiny ribs 17, 18 of discharge pipe 16 extend.
Any one of a number of devices e.g. a conveyor belt, sui-table for catching the discharged material, can be positioned beneath chute 26~
Driving motors 27, which are installed : diametrically opposite each other on bed 24, possess similarly diametrically opposed pinions 28 that engage toothed ring 21.
15The proposed construction thus permits a system to remove material from the centre of reservoirs whi.le featuring a high load bearing capacity, an equalIy effective drive arrangement for the displacement arm, and an entirely unobstructed centrally located discharge conduit along whose course can be install.ed without difficulty, additional means suitable for facilitating the continued removal of discharge material.
