D'une façon generale l'invention concerne une prothèse de la hanche comprenant: ;

...i~, . . . ~ . - .
~r~ - i -P - improved hip prosthesis The present invention due to the collaboration of Monsieur André
B ~ UNET and Mr. Claude SONNER ~ on behalf of the COMPANY
NEW FROM ROULEME ~ TS, relates to a prosthesis of the perfect hip.
Total hip replacement usually done are the seat of friction between the spherical part replacing the femur head and its housing implanted in the patient's pelvis. Because of this friction and whatever either the materials used, wear occurs requiring replacement of -all or part of the prosthesis after a certain time.
To remedy this drawback, the French patent 2,261.7 ~ 3 describes a prosthesis whose axis of oscillation rises on bearing is tilted at 20 relative to the horizontal and this provision allowing when walking to have only one mo ~ lvement of oscillation around this axis and therefore to remove wear between the spherical head and its housing since their relative movement then becomes zero.
~ o However, if we have removed the friction between the head spherical and its housing, the problem was brought back to the level of the bearing which is composed of a journal axis in a cylindrical housing and a row of balls allowing the axial holding of the assembly.
During the operation of the prosthesis, wear by friction will develop between the axis and its housing eventually requiring a new intervention.
The present invention relates to a hip prosthesis improved completely eliminating the aforementioned drawbacks.
1 ~
3q ~ 3 - the-Essentially for this purpose, the hip prosthesis perfected _ ~ i () 3 according to the invention, in which the femoral prosthesis oscillates around an axis tilts sensiblemen-t to 20 on the horizontal, is characterized by the fact that this oscillation is ensured inside the head of the femoral prosthesis by a bearing do ~ the comprising a row of rollers for support the radial loads and a row of balls for bear the axial loads, so that to ~ t movement friction and therefore wear is removed.
In general, the invention relates to a hip prosthesis comprising:;
a femoral organ for implantation in a femur and an integral rod projecting from a near end of femoral organ at an angle about 20 from the horizon; and a head of ticulation intended to be implanted d ~ ns an acetabulum and connected by rotation to said rod to oscillate around said rod, said head ar-tic ~ lation comprising a housing generally t cylindrical does a shaped side wall of circumference and a dextremite wall; and a generally cylindrical envelope, one of which circumferential outer face and a wall outer end having a shape allowing it to receive the housing of the articulation head, and comprising an internal housing in which said rod can be fixed; and the first pads placed between the outer face - in the form of a circumference of said envelope and the circumferential side wall of said articulation head, said first bearings po.rtant r, oyens to assume said head of arti-culation in rotation relative to said rod and p ~ ur suppoL er er loads exerted su ~ said head of articulationi and second pads placed between said outer wall end of said envelope and the end wall ~, `~`

~ a of said articulation head, said second pads having means for supporting said articulation head in rotation relative to said rod and to support ~ e axial load exerted on said articulation head.
Other characteristics and particularities of a hip prosthesis according to the invention, will appear as example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
FIG. 1 is a view in axial section of a prosthesis of the hip according to the invention, seen in mounting position.
FIG 2 is an axial sectional view of the head of the pro ~ hèse according to a first embodiment.
FIG 3 is an axial sectional view of the head of the pro ~ .èse according to a variant of realisakion.
The hip prosthesis shown in Figure 1 essentially comprises a spherical head 1 fitted onto the femoral support S which is implanted in the patient's -Eemur.
The spherical head 1 swivels inside housing (not shown) located in the patient.
According to the invention, the head of the pro ~ e 1 comprises a bearing with a row of cylindrical rollers (2) and a bearing to a row of balls 3, allowing rotation without ~ rolling between the outer ring ~ ieure 11 and the inner ring 4 of the head of prosthesis 1, the inner ring 4 being secured to the support -~
... i ~, . . . ~. -. , femoral 5 by an er assembly (conical sleeve ~ 4 (fig. 2 or cylinc ~ -ique 45 (fig. 3), or tou other t emn ~ knownly for such assemblies (trigonal, splines, etc.).
The spherical ring: Ll cle la tete de la prothese 1 S has in its bore a raceway t cy ~ indrique 12 in which the rollers 2 roll to support the radial loads, and a toroidal path 13 in substantially axial position in the bottom of its bore in which roll the balls 3 to bear the loads axial c ~ ui solicit the prosthesis during walking.
In the same way, the inner ring 4 has on its outer diameter a cylindrical raceway 42 for receive the row of rollers 2 and, on its Eace, opposite with the bottom of the bore of the outer ring, a key path roulemen-toric ~ 43 to receive the row of balls 3. Des shoulders 46 and 47 are provided on each side of the path roll 42 to ensure the axial guidance of the rollers 2.
A cylindrical ring 6 comes to er ~ sleeve by its diameter outer 62 in a suitable housing of the outer ring 11 consecutive to raceway 12, in order to make non-removable the set of elements 11, 2, 3, 4 constituting of the prosthesis head 1. This provision is made possible by the fact that the ring 6 is either shrunk or glued in its housing and, that its bore 63 is lower the diameter of the chernin 12 and thus allows axial retention rollers 2. ~ n clearance J is formed between rollers 2 and the face of the ring 6, in order to avoid any friction during the functioning of the prosthesis.
'~ -Tightness to prevent pollution of vehicles by particles is ensured through the bore 61 of the cylindrical ring 6 which comes opposite the outside diameter of the inner ring 4, between these two parts a game ~ inimal operation.
According to another embodiment, the cylindrical ring 6 is directly connected along the path of bearing 12 comrrR indicated in figure 3.
The two rows of bearings 2 and 3 can be as represented with elements (rollers or balls) of contiguous bearings, or in known manner, have. of metal or plastic body separation cages r ~ ulants.
The inner ring 4 can be either monobloc cm is shown in Figure 2, i.e. in parts 48 and 49 cor.
shown in Figure 3, YES- allow better load distribution over each of the two rows of bearings. In this case, the ring 6 may for example have a radial collar 64 cooperating with a appropriately shaped half-ring 48 for allow the maintenance of the various constituent parts of the head of the prosthesis during assembly operations.
Of course, other alternative embodiments can also be imagined without leaving the domain of the invention.
