A REINFORCING ROD HOLDER FOR VSE IN CONNECTION-T~PE
CONCRETING OPERATIONS
, BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention refers to a reinforcing rod holder for use in connectic~n-type concreting operations, including a hollow body consisting of a box-like element and a cover portion, whereby the breast side, facing the wall in which the holder will be imbedded, comprises per-pendicular ribs and openings for accommodating the rein-forcing rods.
Such a holder is known for example from the U.S. Pa-tent No. 4,329,825 which holder is constructed to receive reinforcing rods with a hoop and two free ends. For the use of a holder with only one connecting shank the assembling into the holder and its securing during transport are more difficult and measures, directed to it have to be taken.
The Swiss Patent No. 637 178 discloses a holder with a U-profile bar which is sought for reinforcing rods with one shank. The reinforcing rods are bend in a U-shape, the end of the bend shank being connected to the casing by an inert gas welding. This kind a fixation requires a metal casing and an expensive construction, in particular its as-sembly. If a similar holder should be constructed withplastics material, measures have to be adopted for fixing the end of the V-shaped part.
SVMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention seeks, therefore, to provide a reinforcing rod holder for reinforcing rods with one shank which holder can be produced economically and assembled ra-tionally and with which the rods are held in a secure and 3~ fixed manner, without impairing the easy removal of the holder after its encasing in the concrete.
According to the present invention there is provided a reinforcing rod holder for use in connection type concre-ting operations, including a hollow body consisting of abox-like element and a cover portionr whereby the breast side, facing the wall in which the holder will be imbedded, comprises perpendicular ribs and openings for accommodating the reinforcing rods, wherein the side opposite to the breast side of the second portion comprises also perpendi-cular ribs directed inwards and arranged opposite to the first perpendicular ribs, said ribs of both portions having steps and corresponding recesses for fixing the shanks of the reinforcing rods.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING
Figs. I and 2 are perspective views of the holder ac-cording to the invention, from two sides, Fig. 3 shows the open holder of Figs. 1 and 2, Fig. 4 shows the cover portion of the holder of Figs.
1 and 2, and - Figs. 5 and 6 show two sections of the holder accord-ing to the lines V-V, VI-VI of Fig. 3.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
The reinforcing rod holder consists of a box-like element 1 and a cover portion 2 and of reinforcing rods 3.
According to the present embodiment the box-like element is the breast side, that is it is directed to the main wall in which the holder will be embedded. However, it is possible to foresee the cover portion as breast s~de. The hollow bo-dy, formed of the box-like element 1 and the cover portion, has a trapezoidal section, the shorter side being on the -- 2 ~
~ 2S9~
breast side. It is however possible to use other sections, for example rectangular, semispherical or trapezoidal sec-tions contrary to the first mentioned one, that is, with a larger breast side, which in particular with regard to me-tallic bodies would increase the anchoring of the part tobe connected. In the present embodiment greater importance was given ~o the easier removal of the holder.
The upper side of the box-like element 1 shows per-pendicular ribs ~ and at the openings 5 holding elements 6, formed integrally with element 1. The inwardly directed ribs 4 have no constant section but Eorm steps 7, serving for fixing the bend shanks 8 of the reinforcing rods. As follows ,in particular from Fig. 3 in connection with Figs.
5 and 6, the recesses formed by the steps, with reference to the longitudinal center line are arranged at different places and have a different length. It can be seen from Fig. 3 that ~he reinforcing rods are inserted thus from both ends into the element 1 that the free ends of the shanks of the reinforcing rods are directed respectively to the other end of the element. It follows further that the recesses are formed thus that they can, counted from the end, receive and hold first one, then two, three, four, etc. shanks. It can been seen further that the shanks are first resting side by side and then one upon the other, said shanks forming an angle with reference to the longitu-dinal center line.
It follows from the drawing that the cover portion is also provided with ribs 9, which are arranged opposite the ribs 4. The function of the inwardly directed ribs 9 is clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4, that is, the stepped ribs protuding from the inner surface serve also to fix the - shanks of the rods. The ribs 9 being the counterpart of the ribs 4, the ribs 9a, b, c, and d are build as flat downhol-ding parts at the places at which the shanks rests side by side, whereas the other ribs 9 e/ f, g, h are provided with ~259~2 recesses 10, for receiving the upper layer of the shanks of the reinforcing rods.
It can be seen from Figs. 5 and 6 that the cover por-tion 2 is arranged at the inside of the box-like element 1, that is, the longitudinal wall 11 of the cover portion is parallel and inwardly to the longitudinal wall 12 of ele-ment 1. The said outer wall 11 is followed by an inner lon-gitudinal wall 13r said longitudinal walls of the cover portion thus forming V- or U~shaped longitudinal walls, which are continued by perpendicular walls. At the place of the perpendicular ribs 4, resp. 9, the longitudinal walls have openings 14, which are reaching over the ribs 4. Be-cause the longitudinal walls of the cover portion are rea-ching into the box-like element they provide for additional hold and security of the shanks of the rods. Furthermore a sealed closure is thus obtained, hindering the penetration of concrete and the staining of the rods. For additional securing the cover portion can be spot welded or stapled or bonded to the box-like element.
It follows further from the drawing that the parts 15, protuding from the element are bend in a U-shape. It is however clear that the form of this end of the rod can vary and is not important for the invention. In the preferred embodiment the two portions of the holder are made of plas-tics material, whereby the perpendicular ribs as well as the V- or U-shaped walls of the cover portion increase the stability of said portions, enabling to produce relatively thinwalled and economic elements. However, it is also pos-sible to produce both portions of metal, for example also expanded metal or wood.
The breast-sided perpendicular ribs 4 as well as the holding elements 6 are causing an indentation of the con-nected concrete part.
It is also possible to shorten the hollow body from one end, according to Figs. 3 and 4 from the right side end.
