COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me:- 7; ft. I I. f I. ft I I r z 5 n 1) ci 7
C
:i THE EDGING CLIP This invention relates to improvements in devices for holding timber, plastic or other synthetic garden edging used in landscaping.
Many people use different types of edging in there gardens to separate different surfaces.
Previous securing of these edgings has involved some sort of fixing of the edge to the securing peg which is time consuming, awkward and often damaging to the edging.
A good example is red-gum timber edging which has always been secured by placing pegs at intervals along the edging on either side. Then nailing the edging to the pegs which invariably causes it to crack or split. The edging is also overlapped when joining lengths together to give added strength, but this detracts from the appearance and adds extra protrusions along the side of the edging.
Tlese problems are overcome by the present invention, which provides a piece of flat material shaped into an inverted U with one side being longer than the other. However both sides protrude past the edging to be secured, one marginally, the other extensively.
15 The present invention provides a piece of flat material 20mm wide, being 350mm long and 3mm thick formed to make the standard Edging clip. When formed the main shaft is S:y 245mm long with a 14mm gap between a 180 degree turn to the 85mm long clip portion.
These measurements form the basic size of the Edging clip and are not binding on the invention. These dimensions can vary to accommodate specific requirements. For instance the main shaft is lengthened for softer soils, the width is increased to be utilised as a joining clip and the gap is broadened to accommodat larger edging. Two clips may also be joined to form corner clips.
To utilise the clip the main shaft is held next to the edging then struck on the head with a 1 enghard object to drive the shaft into the ground. As it submerges the clip gradually encases e p the edging securely between the 14mm gap. When the head of the clip finally touches the top of the edging it is encased on both sides with dual protrusion id the ground so that the clip portion is submerged at least 10mm under ground and the other side submerged considerably further thus holding the edging securely to the ground.
The Edging clip may be made of metal, aluminum, plastic or other synthetic substance.
To assist with an understanding of the invention, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings.
lb outls teciptemansaf shednett teegigtensrcko heha wt In the drawings: FIG. 1 shows a side view of the Edging clip with the relevent dimensions applicable to the standard size of this invention.
FIG. 2 gives a two dimensional view of the Edging clip with standard width dimension.
FIG. 3 This shows the Edging clip A placed next to the edging to be secured B. sitting on the ground C. From this position the Edging clip A is struck on the head D with a hammer or hard object to drive it into the ground C and thus securing the edging on both sides.
FIG. 4 This drawing shows the Edging clip A in the finished position encasing the edging B fully on both sides and securing it to the ground C. It can be seen that the clip portion of the Edging clip A also protrudes under the ground for extra strength.
By using the Edging clip the edging can be manipulated to accomplish tighter curves with better securing and a neater finish.

Claims (2)

1. The Edging clip is designed for utilisation in the field of landscaping/construction, made of steel or other durable materials which is shaped in an inverted U with one side longer than the other and is designed to hold different types of garden edging by encasing the edging when both sides of the Edging clip are pushed down over the edging and into the ground, so that when the clip hits the top of the edging it is encased by dual protrusion of the clip into the ground without other forms of securing.
2. The Edging clip substantially as herein described with reference to the accompnying drawings. I ic t iI Se t o g1,3 i i rip ABSTRACT The Edging clip is disclosed. An edging clip designed for use with garden edging in landscaping. The clip A is a piece of flat material formed into an inverted U shape with one side being longer than the other. When clip A is placed next to edging B and struck at D submerging clip A into ground C and encasing edging B securely. This clip can be used at various Ltervals along edging to form required design. No other fastening is required with the Edging clip. r CC C- C- £C C C it i r i r:I E n
