Abstract
ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is directed to a wall anchor with longitudinal slits and a spreading cone that is provided with an axial screw hole. The anchor has an external thread that extends along its whole length and permits the installation of an adjustable wall stop in the form of a knurled nut.
The present invention is directed to a wall anchor with longitudinal slits and a spreading cone that is provided with an axial screw hole. The anchor has an external thread that extends along its whole length and permits the installation of an adjustable wall stop in the form of a knurled nut.
Description
An Anchor The present invention relates to an anchor, specifi-cally, a wall anchor.
~ lready known are anchors of this kind, which have grooves or raised portions on the outside in order to ensure that the anchor grips well in the wall when expanded.
However, with such anchors it is difficult, when secur-ing items that should or must be set at a distance from the wall, to set this distance precisely and then maintain :it when tightening fasteners, for example, screws. This problem is especially acute when the walls that are involved are in part or totally of wallboard. When screws are tightened, the anchor can very easily move further into the wall, or the plaster can break.
It is the object of the present invention to provide an anchor of the kind described in the introduction hereto such that it can be used with an adjustable wall stop.
According to the present invention there is provided a wall anchor comprising a sleeve with longitudinal slits extend-ing along part of its length, a spreading cone that is provided with an axial threaded hole, a screw for tightening the cone and an external thread on the sleeve, wherein the external thread extends along the entire length of the sleeve so as to accommodate a wall stop in the form of a nut, the external thread simultaneously serving to anchor -the sleeve in a hole in which it is inserted.
The anchor according to the present invention possesses , ~
~ 26636-14 the advantage that it can not only be used in the same manner as a conventional anchor but, in specific applications can ensure a precise~ deliberate and easily adjustable - and if necessary subsequently readjus-table - distance from the wall of an object that is to be secured to the wall. The previously discussed disadvantages encountered in the case of plaster walls are avoided. In the case of large distances from the wall surface, the use of a knurled nut makes it possible to avoid the fact that the slotted portion of the dowel which protrudes from the wall will itself separate.
Embodiments of the present inven-tion are shown in the drawings appended hereto. In the drawings;
Figure 1 is an exploded view of the anchor with its associated parts;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of further development of the dowel with a molded addition; and Figure 3 is a view similar -to Figure 2 but rotated 90.
The anchor 1 is formed from a suitable plastic and in known manner has longitudinal slots 2, these extending along the major portion of its length from the end that is to be disposed in the interior of the wall. The longitudinal slots 2 are diamet-rically opposite each other, and at the end that is inserted into the wall, are closed off by thin break-out ribs 3. The anchor 1 has an external thread along the whole of its length and if needed this can accommodate a knurled nut 5 that can be adjusted to the specific distance from the wall that an object to be installed must be adjusted to.
~ 26636-14 The anchor 1 also incorporates a spreading cone 6, this being formed of plastic and having an axial threaded hole 7 that can either be a threaded drilled ho:Le or a hole for a self-tapping screw such as the woodscrew or l~gbolt 8 that is shown in the drawing. The anchor 1 itselE is naturally hollow.
~fter the screw 8 has been loosened it is also possible to adjust the distance from the wal:l by turning the knurled nut 5.
In order to prevent the cone 6 from turning as well, the cone has small projec-tions 10 that engage in the slots 2 and the cone is retained in the anchor 1 after it has snapped in behind the break-off ribs 3.
E~igures 2 and 3 show a special anchor 1' on which is molded a part 9 on the wall ext~rior end; this part 9 is used for special attachment application. The part 9 can be used, for example, as a guide piece when ins-talling a mounting rail for heaters or the like, as is described in DE-OS 33 06 634. However, other molded portions can be incorporated in the dowel 1 as required.
