Abstract
ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
An emergency support for bolsterless air spring bogies is disclosed. The emergency support is formed by vertically positioned springs in the vicinity of the ideal turning point, and the emergency support is formed as a coil spring or alternatively as a stack of Belleville washers which concentrically surround the centre pivot.
The coil spring or the stack of Belleville washers is pre-loaded in the installed condition and on one side are connected to the under-frame of a carbody and on the other side are facing a contact plate of a transverse member with a clearance.

Description
---` lZl~B~
This in~ention relates to an emergency support for bolster-less air spring bogies where the emergency support is formed by vertically-positioned springs in the vicinity o-f the ideal pivot point.
The o~ject of this invention is to avoid unequal loading of wheel-and-axle sets on failure of an air spring bellows and, simultaneously, to keep the transom clear for pipework and similar parts.
This object is achieved by forming the emergency support as a coil spring or, alternatively, as a set of Belle~ille washers which concentrically surround the pivot and in that the coil spring or Belleville washer stack is pre-loaded in the installed condition and in that these are connected on the one hand to the underframe of a carbody and, on the other side face a contact plate of a transom with a clearance.
The coil spring at the centre of the bogie affords a stati-cally determinate three-point support system whereby unequal wheel loads on the wheel-and-axle sets affected by the -failure of the air spring are relia~ly avoided.
In addition, space is freed on the transom for pipework or cables to be accommodated.
A typical embodiment of the invention is shawn in the drawing.
The underframe of a carbody 1 is supported via an air spring bellows 2 on a longitudinal member 3 of a bogie. To transmit traction forces to the bogie 4, a transverse member 5 of the bogie is connected via a longitudinal radius arm 6 to a centre pivot 7. The centre pivot 7 is rigidly connected to the underframe of the carbody 1. To sa~e-guard against failure on one of the air spring bellows 2, an emergency support 8 is required in addition to the bellows in at least one bogie of each car. According to the invention, the emergency support - 3lZ~34~;
is formed as a coil spring or stack of Belleville washers arranged concentrically around the centre pivot 7. The coil spring 9 is guided by a guide -tube 10 and simul-taneously pre-loaded by bolts 11.
This compression of the spring 9 reduces spring deflection from the tare state to the loaded states of the vehicle and ensures a clearance w between the coil spring 9 and a support plate 12 situated on the transverse member. In the event of one air bellows

The underframe of a carbody 1 is supported via an air spring bellows 2 on a longitudinal member 3 of a bogie. is formed as a coil spring or stack of Belleville washers arranged concentrically around the centre pivot 7.
2 failing the coil spring 9 bears via the guide tube 10 on the contact plate 12. In order to create clear conditions of statics, the clearance 2 is smaller than the clearance z between the body 1 and an inner air spring rim 13.
Due to the concentric arrangement of only one spring element a statically determinate support on three points is achieved namely on the emergency support 8 of the bogie with the failed air bellows 2 and on the two other still intact air spring bellows or the emergency springs of the second bogie and equal wheel loads of of the two wheel-and-axle sets under the emergency support are obtained.
Another advantage is in the small space required for the emergency support 8 which affords free space for the designer to accommodate pipework and cables of all kinds.
~ he emergency support is not limited only to the centre pivot connection shown and this connecting arrangement is only to be looked upon as an example.
