ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
The present invention provides a packaging container, particularly for cigarette tubes, comprising a pair of similar trough-shaped inner containers disposed in a joint sheathing having continuous bottom and top surfaces, said inner con-tainers abutting end to end in the longitudinal direction, each of the trough-shaped inner containers having an upper opening and being provided with at least one strip which partially covers the opening.

Description

~ ~'f ~ 3~

I~he present invention relates to a packaging container, particularly for cigaret-te tubes and comprises two inner con-tainers so disposed in a joint sheathing tha-t they mee-t in the longitudinal direction.
Heretofore packaging means for cigarette tubes have consis-ted of a trough-like container which can be closed with a hinged lid portion. Containers which can be enclosed in a sleeve-like sheathing are also known. This type of container is intended for an amount of a hundred cigarette tubes.
There exists the need to make available a larger num-ber of cigarette tubes in a packaging unit. Empty cigarette tubes are a relatively sensitive charge since the hollow cigar-ette tubes can be deformed when removing them or they can be crumpled by the edges of the sheathing or of -the trough-like container when opening or closing the packaging container.
Therefore, the present invention provides a packaging container of the aforesaid type such that damage to -the cig-arette tubes in the container is avoided during storage and/or when removing them.
According to the present invention there is provided a packaging container for cigarette tubes comprising a pair of similar trough-shaped inner containers disposed in a joint sheathing having continuous bo-ttom and top surfaces; said inner containers abutting end to end in the longitudinal direction, each of the trough-shaped inner containers having an upper open-ing and being provided with at least one strip which partially covers the opening.
Thus, according to the present invention each of the trough-like inner containers is provided with at least one strip which partially covers the trough opening. ~s a result of this, at least the ciagarette tubes under the strip are completely protec-ted agains-t damage when sliding the trough-like containers ...

into the shea-thing or when pulling them out thereof. The cig-arette -tubes required for producing tamped cigarettes can be removed from the open region of -the trough opening without difficul-ty.
According to one embodiment of the present invention the edge strip is disposed at leas-t on one narrow side of each of the inner containers.
In order to assure the protective effec-t independently - la -~ 3 3 of the sliding direction between sheathing and inner containers, it is desirable according to a further embodiment of the pre-sent invention that an edge s-trip is disposed on each of the opposed narrow sides.
According to a still further embodiment of the pre-sent invention it is favourable when an edge strip is disposed on at least one longitudinal side of each of the inner contain-ers in order to prevent the tubes from dropping out when the position of the packaging is advertently reversed, i.e., when the trough opening is open downwards.
In a suitable embodiment an edge strip can be provid-ed on each of the opposed longitudinal sides.
According to a further embodiment of the present invention an edge strip is disposed on at least one narrow side and on at least one longitudinal side. It is particularly expedient when three edge strips defining the trough opening in a U-shaped manner are provided~ According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention the legs of the ~-shaped boundary of the trough opening are formed by the edge strips provided on the narrow sides.
The edge strips preferably form one piece wi-th the blank of the trough-like containers, particularly in the pre-sence of two or more edge strips they are designed as one con-tinuous piece.
In a further embodiment of this embodiment, the edge strips are separate straps making it possible to bend up in-dividual edge strips when removing the tubes and thus to enlarge the removal opening temporarily.
It is desirable when the width of the edge strips on the longitudinal sides is approximately one third of the width of the trough-like containers.

When using two opposed edge strips on the longitudinal (}~33 sides the width is suitably so divided that the sum of the widths of the two ed~e strips corresponds approximately to one thlrd of the width of the trough-like containers.
The inner containers consist preferably of a blank in one piece.
For the formation of the edge strips the edge-strip-free region of the trough opening of the one piece blank is suitably punched out.
In order that the edge strips may be bent up when removing cigarette tubes, it is desirable when the edge strips are connected to the side walls of the trough-like container or containers by bending or buckling edges.
This enables the user to bend up or to bend down one or several edge strips as required or desired.
In yet another embodiment of this embodiment the edge strips may be provided with prefabricated serrations par-ticularly at the bending or buckling edges.
In order to facilitate the separation of the edge strips from the lateral surfaces of the trough-like containers, it is desirable when the serrations have dash-like or dot-like perforations.
In order to prevent an inner container from sliding out of the sheathing or to ~acilitate the removal of an inner container, it is advantageous when the sheathing has a punch-out forming a strap at least at one transverse edge.
The present invention will be further illustrated, by way of the accompanying drawings, in which:-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a packaging con-tainer according to one embodiment of the present invention;
Figure 2 is a plan view of a (filled) inner container;
and Figure 3 is a perspective view of an (empty) inner ~ ~ ~.fi(~1~;33 container.
The packaging container 1 as shown in Figure 1 com-prises a sheathing 2 in the form of an oblong square block 2 encompassing two inner containers 3 and 4. The inner contain-ers 3 and 4 are so disposed in the sheathing 2 that -they meet in the longitudinal direction.
From the Figures 2 and 3 it is evident that the inner containers 3 and 4 are designed like troughs, i.e., without a lid or without a closed top.
In Figure 2 several practical examples are shown simultaneously in order to simplify their representation. They will be explained hereafter in greater detail.
An inner container filled with cigarette tubes 10 is shown in Figure 2 and it can be seen that the cigarette tubes 10 are arranged at right angles to the longitudinal extension of the inner container 3.
According to the present invention each of the con-tainers 3 and 4 has at least one strip 8 or 9 or 15 or 16 which partially covers the trough opening, one edge strip being dis-posed on one narrow side 6 or 7 of the inner container 3.Ilowever, an edge strip 8 or 9 can also be disposed on each of the two narrow sides 6 and 7.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 2 a design in which an edge strip 15 or 16 is disposed on at least one longitudinal side 13 or 14 can be seen. However, as is evident, an edge strip 15 and 16 can also be provided on opposed longitudinal sides 13 and 14 respectively.
It is evident from Figure 2 that designs are also possible in which an edge strip 8 or 9 and 15 or 16 is arranged on at least one narrow side 6 or 7 and on at least one longi-tudinal side 13 or 14. Figuratively seen this results in an L-shaped design of edge strips.

B ,-'r~(}~;33 Figure 2 also shows an embodiment in which three edge strips defining the trough opening in a U-shaped manner are provided. In this case it is desirable when the legs of the U-shaped boundary of the trough opening are formed by the edge strips 8, 9 provided on the narrow sides 6 and 7 of the trough opening while the base of the U-shaped design is formed by an edge strip 15 or 16 provided on a longitudinal side 13 or 14.
The edge strips 8, 9, 15, 16 may be in one continuous piece. However, they can also be separate straps.
In order to cover the cigarette tubes adequately but without rendering their removal difficult, it is desirable when the width of each of the edge strips 15 or 16 is approxi-mately one third of the width B of the trough-like containers 3 or 4.
If in an embodiment which also is evident from Figure
2 an edge strip 15 or 16 is provided on each longitudinal side 13 or 14, then the width of these edge strips is suitably so chosen that the sum of these widths corresponds approximately to one third of the width B of the trough-like containers 3 or 4.
A particularly simple design is obtained when the inner containers 3 or 4 consist of a blank in one piece. In this case it may be desirable when the trough opening region 20, which is free from edge strips 8~ 9, 15, 16, is punched out.
Even in the case of a blank in one piece the design can be such that the edge strips 8, 9, 15 and 16 are connected to the side walls of the trough-like container or containers 3 or 4 by bending or buckling edges 17', 17", 17'''. This thus enables the user to bend up one or several edge strips or to bend them beyond the lateral edges of the trough-like container by 180 degrees. This facilitates the removal of the cigarette tubes 10 without the risk of damaging the hollow sections.
3 3 It is shown particularly in Figure 3 that the indivi-dual edge strips are connected to the side walls of the trough-like container 3 or 4 by prefabricated serrations 18 instead of the bending edges 17 so that the user can also remove an edge strip completely instead of bending or buckling the edge strips.
This is advantageous, for example, when a fairly large number of cigarette tubes has already been removed and the protective function of the edge strips no longer is absolutely required when sliding the inner containers 3 or 4 into the sheathing 2 or pulling them out of it.
In order to facilitate the separation of edge strips along the provided serrations 18, said serrations suitably have dash- or dot-like perforations 19.
The packaging container 1 according to the present invention with sheathing 2 and inner containers 3 and 4 is preferably made of cardboard but it can also be made of plas-tics, for example, even of transparent or translucent plastics.
The sheathing 2 can have a punch-out 11 at one trans-verse edge or at both transverse edges, preferably at the upper transverse edges, such that a bendable strap 12 :is obtained.
In this manner an inner container 3 within the sheathing 2 can be protected against unintentially sliding out or the removal of an inner container from the sheathing 2 can thus be facili-tated.
The dimensions of the trough-like inner containers 3 or 4 with regard to their height H and their length L are such that each container has room for 100 cigarette tubes 10 having a length B.
The present invention is not restricted to the prac~
tical example shown and described. It al~o comprises any expert modification and development as well as part- and/or s~b-combin-ations of the features and measures shown and/or described.
