Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
A pair of annular bodies are provided for telescoping over a man's ring finger and the annular bodies each include first and second axial ends.
The first axial ends are substantially planar and disposed normal to the center axes of the annular bodies. The first ends are abuttingly engageable with each other in coaxial relation and corresponding peripheral portions of the first axial ends include circumferentially spaced coacting axially extending recess and projection structures releasably and telescopingly engaged with each other to lock the annular bodies against relative radial shifting and also angular shifting relative to each other. The coacting axially extending recess and projection structures enjoy a friction-type telescopic engagement with each other to thereby also resist axial separation of the annular bodies and corre-sponding outer peripheral portions of the annular bodies include axially pro-jecting enlargements on the second axial ends thereof defining a peripheral portion of the pair of annular bodies comprising a zone of increased axial extent.

Description

~-~'7~81g~

Men's jewelry items are becoming increasingly popular and at the same tlme men's wedding rings are tending to become more decorative than the conventional plain gold bands heretofore used as men's wedding rings.
Accordingly, a need exists for a more decorative engagement and wedding ring set for use by men.
Examples of previously known forms of engagement and wedding ring sets including some of the general structural and operational features of the instant invention are disclosea in U.S. Pat. Nos. 2,127,766,
2,439,727, 2,493,285 and 2,725,730.
The engagement and wedding ring set of the instant invention has been speciflcally designed for use by men and is provided to allow married men to be provided wlth an aesthetlcally lmproved jewelry set.
The engagement and ring set of the instant invention includes a pair of annular bodies each including first and second axial ends. The first axial ends are substantially planar and disposed normal to the center axis of the annular bodies, the first axial ends being abuttingly engaged with each in co-axial relationship, corresponding peripheral portions of the first axial ends including circumferentially spaced coacting axially ~tending blind bores and plns releasably and telescopically frictionally engaged with each other to lock the annular bodies against radial and angular shifting relative to each other and also to frictionally resist axial separation of the bodies, one of the annular bodles including peripherally spaced gem stones mounted thereon and facing outwardly of the outer peripheral surface of the one body, the axially dm~

extending blind bores being formed in the one body and the pins being carried by the other body, the blind bores and pins enjoying a friction-type telescopic engagement with each other independent of a snap fitted engagement, the peripheral portions of the second axial ends corresponding to the first mentioned peripheral portions including axially projecting enlargements together defining a periphera]
portion of the ring set defining a zone of increased axial extend, the gem stones being mounted on the peripheral portions of the annular body corresponding to the peripheral portions of the first axial ends, the gem stones being mounted in cavities formed in and spaced about the outer peripheral surface of the one annular body corresponding to the zone of increased axial extent.
The main object of this invention is to provide an engagement and wedding ring set for men which may be used by men as an aesthetically improved ring set denoting a wedded state.
Another object of this invention is to provide an engagement and wedding ring set wherein the engagement and wedding rings are structured to be worn in closely opposing and mating side-by-side relation.

dm:~V - la -Still another important object of this invention i9 to provide an engagement and wedding ring set constructed in a manner whereby the engage-ment and wedding rings of the set will be supported from one another against relative radial displacement and relative angular displacement as well as axial separation.
A final object of this invention to be specifically enumerated herein is to provide an engagement and wedding ring set in accordance with the preceding objects and which will conform to conventional forms of manu-facture and be of simple construction so as to provide a device that will be economically feasible and long lasting.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the engagement ring component of the set;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the wedding ring component of the set;
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the wedding and engagement ring joined as an integral unit;
Figure 4 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken substantially upon the plane indicated by the section line 4--4 of Figure 3;
Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken substan-tially upon the plane indicated by the section line 5--5 of Figure 4; and Figure 6 is a fragmentary side elevational view of the engagement ring compoment.
Referring now more specifically to the drawings, the numeral 10 generally designates the engagement and wedding ring set of the instant invention with the set 10 including an engagement ring component referred to in general by the reference numeral 12 and a wedding ring component referred to in general by the reference numeral 14.
The engagement ring component comprises an annular body 16 including first and second axial end faces 18 and 20 and the wedding ring component comprises an annular body 21 including opposite axial end faces ~1'7~

22 and 24.
The axial end faces 18 and 22 are disposed normal to the longitu-dinal center axes of the bodies 12 and 14 and are positionable in intimate end slbutting relation in the manner illustrated in Figures 3, 4, and 5 of the drawings with the annular bodies 12 and 14 coaxial. The ring component 12 includes a pair of axially outwardly opening recesses 26 formed therein which open outwardly of the end face 18 and a similar pair of recesses 28 are formed in the ring component 14 and open axially outwardly of the end face 22 thereof. A pair of pins or projections 30 are secured within the recesses 28 and project outwardly from the axial end face 22. The outer ends oE the pins 30 are frictionally telescopingly receivable within the recesses 26. In this manner, when the axial faces 18 and 22 of the ring components 12 and 14 are disposed in contacting relation and in the positions thereof illustrated in Figures 3, 4 and 5 of the drawings, the pins 30 are received within the recesses 26 and lock the ring components 12 and 14 together against relative radial shifting, angular displacement relative to each other and the fric-tional fit of the pins 30 within the recesses 26 also resists axial separation of the ring components 12 and 14.
With attention now invited more specifically to Figure 3 of the drawings, the peripheral portions of the ring components 12 and 14 having the recesses 26 and 28 formed therein include axial enlargements 32 ant 34 on the axial end faces 20 and 24 and the enlargements 32 and 34 thereby define an axially lengthened peripheral portion of the ring set lO. In addition, the ring component 12 includes peripherally spaced gem stones 36 set in the outer periphery thereof.
The pins 30 are carried by the wedding ring defining component 14 whereby similar pins will not be apparent or present when the engagement ring component 12 is first worn. When a marriage ceremony is about to take place the recesses 26 may be cleaned of foreign debris in preparation to receive the pins 30 of the wedding band component 14 at the time of the :1 17~

wedding ceremony. FurtherJ the wedding band component 14 may also include peripherally spaced gem stones corresponding to the gem stone 36.
