1176 ~ 16 The present inv ~ ntion relates to the soffit to cover the underside of a ~ eaves roof of a building and, in particular, soffit panel character ~ ris ~ mainly by its mode lat ~ lat attachment to a similAire pannsau ad ~ ac ~ nt.
The soffit panels described in the Canadian patent 730,345 of March 22, 1966, in the name of William B. ~ cCready and entitled:
"~ TAL SOF ~ IT", are designed to hang on one side to others, the joint thus created remains visible and the male edge panel not nailed ~ can easily come out of the female edge of the pan noau adjacent under the effect of the wind. In the Canadian brevst number 1,049.21 ~ dated February 27, 1979 from the present inventor, the seal is practically invisible, but the hanging, once done, is permanent, so that the last cannot be removed panel hung for flns to modify its shape and adjust it for conform it to the space it must cover, for example when the wall of the house is not parallel to the edge of the eaves.
The general purpose of the present invention is to produce a soffit panel which not only forms a practically joint invisible with the corresponding edge of a similar panel, but which, also ~ removably hooks to the corresponding edge for allow dropout. if necessary.
Another object of the invention is to provide a panel surffite which, due to its natural curvature and elasticity, leans against the underside of the eaves without requiring nailing dan8 8a central part, nailing which would be visible.
Another object of the invention is to produce a panel soffit in which the joint between two adjacent panels is practically invisible despite the fact that the hooking is removable.
Another object of the invention is to produce panels soffit with grooves in reinforcement in which the hanging lat ~ ral is such that it allows uniform e ~ pacement as well as a profile con ~ both said grooves - even that located at the joint between two panels.

sous cet avant-tolt;
la figure 2 est une vue en coupe tran~versale d'un panneau de soffite à ~on état libre et non contraint;

- 2 -The soffit panel according to the invention comprises a p.lttie central 3t a pair of opposite side edges ~ s, the part ~ entre compor ~ nt 3U minus two separate flat portions ~ by enl3 first ra.nure, trapezoidal profile ~ projecting towards . ... ....
! C ~ aUt ~ ar relative to the panel, this groove having a flat bottom and two inclined ribs diverging vsrs the ~ flat portions, lec two lateral edges having a m ~ le edge and a female edge parallel to said groove, the male edge comprising a strip inclined and directed upwards, and a terminal tongue pro-read along said inclined strip and at an acute angle with it and directed towards the female edge, the female edge comprising a strip inclined ~ lr iX ~ e ~ upwards and extended ~ e by a flat extension directed away from the edge m ~ the, the bottom of said groove, said tongue-ts and said extension being arranged in a plane substantially common, the flat extension defining a terminal portion forming a nailing border and, below this border, a fold in the extrado ~
of the panel forming, with the flat extension, an interlocking slot of U profile widening and opening in opposite direction to said nailing edge and towards the inclined strip ~ e of the female edge, the internal faces of said slot each having a straight profile, 1B bottom of said slot being of width 00indrs than the thickness of said panel, said tab 9 ~ inserting in a removable and greenhouse manner in the bottom of the corresponding slot of a similar panel adJa-cent to form a joint between the two panels, 18 border of nails of the adjacent panel ~ both hidden by the central part and the inclined strip of the male edge of said panel, the latter strip inclined defining, with extension and inclined edge band female of the adjacent panel, a second groove having ~ ubstantial-lem0nt the same profile as the profile of the first groove, 1sdit joint being located at the junction of the laclin strip ~ e of the male edge with said extension.
Preferably, the tongue has a slightly convex profile at the extrados of the p ~ nneau, so as to lean against the inner face of said withdrawal and force against said extension the junction of the ~! 3 , ~. ..

Preferably ~ if, the panel is convex transverse-dirty ~ ent so that, when ~ 11 is flxed, 8a partle central comes lean under the sheet before using nails or other means fixing which would be ~ lslbles.
The ~ attached drawings show a preferred reallsstion of the invention. In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a vertical section of an eaves and a cross section of a series of flxed soffit panels ~

Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view of ~
soffit panel in ~ free and unconstrained state;
iigura 3 is a partial view in perapective two soffit panels assembled; and Figure 4 is a partial sectional view in the ~ anointed region of two panels assembled.
The sofflte psnneau according to the inventlon is generally lndicated in l and constitutes of a sheet of metal or plastic, of uniform and rectangular or square thickness the panels 1 are intended to hang laterally to each other and to be fixed by means of nails 2 under the eaves of a building, as lndicated in A in figure 1. Each panel ect in a material elaatic and, in its unconstrained or natural form, e ~ t slightly curved in the transverse direction of the panel (volr the flgure 2), cecl for a reason which will be explained below ~
Each panel 1 has a male side edge 3 and an edge opposite side female 4 separated by ~ no central part 5. The central part 5. carries at least two pl ~ te 6 portions, separate at least ~ by a groove 7, of trapezoidal profile, falsant salllie worm ~ the top, that is to say on the underside of the purlin ~ u, this groove having a flat bottom 8 and two inclined bands 9 and 10. Groups lncliné 9 and 10 diverge ver ~ the flat portions 6.
These flat portions 6 are preferably provided with openings ~,. ,.,. . _ _.

The male edge 3 has an inclined strip 12 beam sdillia on the underside of the panel and substantially parallel to the inclined band ~ e ~ dH the central groove 7. Lfl bands inclined ~ e 12 made the extension of the neighboring plata portion 6 and eet at its prolonged tcur by a terminal tongue 13, which makes an acute angle with the strip 12 and which is directed towards the female lateral edge 4. The tongue 13 has a slightly convex profile on the extrados side of the panner, as shown in Figure 4, and csci for a reason to be explained ~ e below.
The lateral edge ~ ral female 4 ~ omorts, to be removed from the portion neighboring flat 6, an inclined band 15 parallel to the inclined band 10 of the central groove 7 and of the same width as the latter. This band 15 is extended by an extension 16, arranged substantially in the same plane as the bottom ~ of the central groove 7 and that the tongue attachment 13. The extension 16 is terminated by a border of nailing 17, with or without holes, for nailing it ~ u 00yen of nails 2 snufJ the eaves A. This nailing edge 17 is, preferably, ncg, ribur ~ e on the underside of the panel, as indicated in 19, to add ~ tre the longitudinal rigidity of this bordurl. Extension 16 forms, right-hand side of the edge 17, a fold 20. This fold 20 is ex-trados du panneaù e ~ has a U profile with two legs 21 and 22 c ~ gap in right profile nt raccDrdée by a rounded portion 23. The inner leg 21 of the fold 20 defines, with extension 16, a fsnte embo ~ terent for the latching tab 13 of an ad ~ scent panel.
This nesting slot, indicated at 24, has a profile of shape sn U
and which goes away widening in direction of the lateral edge male 3 of the panel, that is to say in the direction of the inclined strip 15. The ~
inner faces of cat slot slot ~ have ~ straight and the bottom U is getting smaller to have a width less than the thickness of the sheet constituting the panel. In the hanging position of ~ L761 ~ L6 two panels ad ~ acsnte, as seen in tigure 4, the terminsl edge the tongue 13 comes to be inserted in the greenhouse at the bottom of the tent, of embedding of the panel nd ~ scent, and in this hanging position, 18 port ~ we round 23 of the fold 20 vlent ~ press against the lower surface d ~ lnclln band ~ 12 Adjacente to the tongue 13 It should be noted that, according to a characteristic ~ sensitive ~ e ~ sentential of the invention, the tongue 13 can easily be removed from the slots embo ~ te ~ ent 24, because 11 is pa ~ permanent hooking ~ nt entered 108 two panels. Ain ~ i, we can retlrer the last panel hung for lû en d ~ cut lee borda evant et arrlère, in order to conform to e ~ psco to cover 80Ue the eaves. For example, it often kills ~ es panels when the edge of the avan ~ tolt is not parallel to the edi ~ lce wall Due to the presence of the curvature of the tongue 13, this tongue rests against the face of the inner leg 21 of the 20pDur fold at least ~ a part ~ of the width of the tongue, so that the ~ onctlon 25 between the lnclin strip ~ e 12 and the tab 13 is forced against extension 16. Thus ~ the seal torm0 ~ between the two adjoining panels and hung ~ e practically Invisible because C8 ~ anointed is at the anointing of extension 16 and of the inclined strip ~ - 12 and that there is no free space at the level of this ~ anointed.
With ~ oyots ~ e hooking according to the invsntion, not geulenent the nailing edge 17 and the nail 8 ~ 2 are hidden from view by the flat portion 6 of the panel ad ~ -cent, ~ 8ia ~ also the groove formed ~ e by the inclined strip ~ - 15, the mow defined by the extension 16 and 1B strip incline ~ o 12 of the panel ad ~ ac ~ nt is pro ~ it is ~ Dlable to the groove central 7 ~ 16a dlt ~ sr-nt ~ groove ~ o oont ~ gele ~ snt espac ~ ea et parallels between ell0a a uose ~ blage of div-rs punneaux 1 The main character of the invention is the talt that the tongue of scrochage a p-ut panel atre tacll ~ ent removed ~ e from the tent of the other panel when the first panel has not been ~ nailed ~ in place. Once nailed ~ a tension a'9xerce on the lsnguette dana le sena dn la ~ ente d'e ~ bo ~ t ~ ment, so that the panel re ~ te Jccroch ~. In addition, due to the natural curvature trsnsver ~ ele of the panel, comms shown in Figure 2, it is clear that once the switch has the fixture in place under the eaves, the cuntral part of each panel is forced, from its elasticity, against the underside of the eaves and, therefore, it is not no need to nail the central part of the panel under the front roof to prevent the wind from vibrating the panel. So due at this natural curvature, we can install purlinsux ~ until B 'to 12' in length without having to nail it into their grooves 7, nails which are visible under the front-tolt.
