Abstract
ABSTRACT
A rail fastening device comprising a housing to be anchored in the ground and having a longitudinal hole extending in the direction of the rail to be fastened and comprising a clamp bent-over twice, the central part of which bears on the rail, whereas one bent-over part is located in the longitudinal hole and the other bent-over part bears on a supporting face of the housing, whereby the end portion of the part bearing on the supporting face of the housing is again bent-over in a manner such that the end bears on the rail.
Description
I ~ 67~2 1 The invention relates to a rail fastening device comprising a housing to be anchored to the ground on a tie and having a longitudinal hole extending in the direction of the rail to be fastened and comprising a clamp bent-over twice, the central part of which bears on the railJ
whereas one bent-over part is located in the longitudinal hole and the other bent-over part bears on a supporting face of the housing.
Rail fastening devices known in the art have the disadvantage that the clamp can absorb only slight~ vertical forces produced, for example, when the rail is lifted by a train passing over or some extended ground movement.
The invention seeks to provide a solution for this problem by providing a rail fastening device comprising a housing which is adapted to be placed adjacent to a rail to be secured, an anchor member for securing said housing to the ground Oll a tie, and a clamp; said housing comprising a base and an enlarged portion encompassing a bore which in use rlms parallel to and in the longitudinal direction of said rail, said bore being of a diameter sufficient to hold an end portion of said clamp said clamp having a first straight portion which is adapted to be inserted into said bore and a first curved portion extending from the first straight portion and bending back upon itself so as, in use to engage the rail and merge with a curved portion which curves upwards then back upon itself to engage the base of the housing and merge with a third curved portion which extends over the anlarged part of the housing in a direction towards said rail so as to engage the latter, in use.
The end of the third curved portion bearing on the rail is exposed to bending strain at the occurrence of vertical forces and is, therefore, capable of absorbing appreciable forces. It is preferably bent-over ,, - 2 -7 ~ 2 1 through about 90.
The invention will be explained more fully wit}- reference to the drawing.
The drawing is a perspective view oE a rail and a fastening device according to the invention.
The rail 1 is elastically held in place with the aid of a fastening device according to the invention comprising a housing 2, which is anchored to the ground on a tie ~not shown) with the aid of an anchoring member 3, and a clamp 4, The clamp 4 comprises a straight end portion 8 inserted in an elongated bore 9 in the housing 2, and a central part 6 bearing on the rail foot 5. A curved portion 7 joins the end part 8 to the central part 6. A further curved portion extends from the central part 6 to a part 10 bearing on the supporting face 11 of the housing 2.
From the part 10 the clamp is again bent-over through about ~0 in a manner such that the end 12 bears on the rail foot 5. Therefore, on the occurrence of vertical forces the end part 12 is exposed to bending strain so that heavy, vertical forces can be absorbed.
