Abstract
FASTENER FOR SHOE
ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
The fastener comprises two strap systems which are secured respectively on each lateral side of the upper of the shoe in the region of the instep. One of the systems comprises a strap having a free end portion which is passed through a metal loop. The free end portion of one of the straps of the other strap system is passed through the metal loop and is provided with apertures in which is insertable the head of a button or stud incorporated in the part of the first-mentioned strap fixed to the upper in the region of the instep. The other strap system comprises two independent straps which are interconnected by a conventional buckle and tongue arrangement.

Description
DE8CRIP'rION
TITLE :
" Fastener for shoes "
.. .. ~
Fastening systems for shoes employed at the present time nave various drawbacks and in particular the following : in the most common shoe-lace system, the laces become rapidly worn and break when a strong pull is exerted thereon, also the lacing is relatively long to effect ; in the elastic band system, the bands rapidly stretch and, in the absence of a possihility of adjusting the bands, the shoe has a tendency to gape ;
in the strap system, there is only one possibility of adjustment and the free stra~must be each time passed ; throu`gh the buckle and the position must be sought which permits the tongue of the buckle to enter the aperture in the free strap which corresponds to the optimum tightening. This latter fastening system necessitates an extra pull to be exerted on the strap in order to insert the tongue in the aperture of the strap and, after this insertion,the strap returns to its final position.
An object cf the present invention is to provide a fastening device of the strap type whereby it is possible to obtain two adjustments, namely a first, permanent adjustment in accordance with the shape of the foot, and a second adjustment for achieving the fastening proper by a simple and rapid mo~ement.
:
The invention therefore provides a fastening device for a shoe, said device being of the strap type and com-prising two strap systems respectively fixed to the laterally outer side and laterally inner side of the shoe and interconnected by a closed loop, one of the systems being of the conventional type comprising two straps, one of the straps being provided adjacent the ~ree end thereof with a buckle and tongue in which the free end portion of the other strap is inserted, said other strap being provided with apertures for the passage of the tongue and on wKich is mounted said metal loop for connection to the other strap system ~hich is constituted by a single strap which passes through said metal loop and is folded upon itself, the free end portion of said single strap being hooked - on a fixed lug.
A better understanding of the invention will be had from the accompanying drawing which shows one em-bodiment of the invention which is given merely by way of example and in which :
; Fig. 1 is an elevational view from the laterally inner side of a shoe provided with the~device according to the invention ;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the shoe ;

Fig. 4 is a partial sectional view, to an enlarged - i J 63~
scale, of one of the straps and taken on line 4-4 of Fig. l, and Fig. 5 is a partial perspective view of the strap system shown in Fig. 3.
With reference to the drawing, there are secured to the laterally inner side l of the upper of the shoe in the region of the instep two parallel straps 2.
Each strap comprises, in the part in contact with the . upper l, a button comprising a disc 3 incorporated in the strap2, a stem 4 which projects from the strap and a round head 5 ("bouton tibii' of the detachable-collar stud type) which is adapted to penetrate ap.ertures 6 ` formed in the free portion of the strap 2.
Secured to the laterally outer side 7 of the upper, ~ 15 in the region of the instep of the foot, are two other-. parallel straps 8. Each strap comprises two independent parts 9 and lO, the first part 9 being secured to the lower part of the upper and the second part lO being secured to the upper part of the upper. The two ree end portions of the straps 9 and lO are interconnected in the conventional manner by a buc~le ll. The latter has a tongue or catch 12 and is connected to the end portiorl of.the, lower strap 9 and the.tongue 12 adapted to enter apertures 13 formed in the free end portion of the strap 10.
Each strap 9, lO is cGnnected to the corresponding strap 2 by a metal loop 14 through which the strap lO

Each strap 9, lO is cGnnected to the corresponding strap 2 by a metal loop 14 through which the strap lO

It can be seen that, with this arrangement, the .- strap system 9, 10 is used for effecting, when the strap
2 is closed, a first adjustment in accordance with the shape of the foot, the opening and closure of the fastening device being achieved thereafter solely by means of the strap 2 merely by the insertion or with-drawal of the button or stud 5, a second adjustment being effected by the choice of the aperture among the apertures 6.
.: 15 It must be understood that there may be employed instead of systems having two parallel straps, systems having a single strap or more than two straps. Further, the strap lO may be connected directly to the strap 9 under the buckle 11 instead of being secured to the upper.
