Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE

A gear has a housing which is formed by a housing box with an assembly orifice and with a housing cover closing the assembly orifice. A gear shaft with a gear wheel in the housing has a bearing between the gear wheel and the housing cover. The gear wheel interacts with a pinion which is supported by a cover shaft centered relative to the housing cover. The cover shaft is, for example, the driven shaft of a flange motor attached to the housing cover. Locating devices are provided for securing the exact position of the housing box and the housing cover relative to one another, which is necessary for a proper inter-action between the gear wheel and the pinion. According to the invention, these locating devices are formed exclusively by surfaces of revolution concentric to the bearing. They therefore require only a low production outlay. Although they cannot fix the cover completely relative to the housing, nevertheless the existing freedom of movement of the cover relative to the housing has no effect on the quality of meshing of the gear wheels.

Description

~ ~6~ 7'~
The invention relates to a gear with a housing which comprises a housing box with an assembly orifice and a housing cover enclosing the latter, with a gear shaft supporting a gear wheel, with a bearing for the gear shaft located on the gear housing between the gear wheel and the housing cover, with a cover shaft which is centered in relation to the housing cover and projects from this into the gear box and whi.ch supports a pinion interacting with the gear wheel, and with locating de-vices for securing the exact position of the housing box and the housing cover relative to one another.
In gears to which is connected, on the cover side of the gear, a flange motor, the shaft pinion of which interacts with a gear wheel mounted within the gear on the cover side, the arrangeement according to German Patent Specification 879,943, is most frequently used in practice, and in this the bearing of the gear wheel shaft on the same side as the cover is located in the housing cover, the flange motor being centered relative to the housing cover by a locating surface concentric to its shaft. As a result, a secure local arrangement of the pinion relative to -the gear wheel is obtained, in as much as the bearing bore provided for the gear wheel shaft in the housing cover is aligned exactly with the corresponding bearing bore in the housing box. This is achieved by providing the cover and the housing box wi-th interacting locating surfaces and with locating pins fixing the angular position. Accordingly, apart from the locating surfaces and the bearing bores provided for centering the motor on the housing cover, a locating surface on the housing box.and on the housing cover respectively and additional locating bores with locating pins are necessary, and the locating surfaces on the cover and housing box must be adjus-ted to the posit~on of the bearing bores in a diamensionally accur~te manner. This is expensive.

~ 1 -1 1 ~0 ~ 7 ~
The gear according to German Auslegungschrift 1,032,635 requires a lower outlay in terms of production, and in this the gear wheel shaft is overhung in the housing. The disadvantage of this, however, is that the shaft bearings need to have greater dimensions because of their more unfavourable position.
Finally, German Patent Specification 591,653 makes known a gear in which the bearing of the gear wheel shaft on the same side as the cover is not arranged in the cover, but in a special housing projection. Although this does away with the need for the aligned position of the two shaft bearings to depend on the centering of the cover relative to the housing box, nevertheless careful centering of these two parts relative to one another is necessary because meshing accuracy depends on this In the known gear, this problem is solved by the fact that the interacting locating surfaces on the cover and housing box are designed off-center relative to the shaft mounted in the cover, so that by rotating the cover relative to the housing box the distance between this shaft and the gear wheel shaft interacting therewith can be changed and the meshing of the gear wheel can be adjusted. Although, because of this, it becomes unnecessary to adjust in a dimensionally accurate manner these locating surfaces to the position of the bearing bores of the gear wheel shaft and of the cover shaft, nevertheless an arrangement preferred nowadays is one in which a dimensionally accurate meshing of the gear wheels is guaranteed without com-plicated adjustment which is possibly also susceptible to faults.
The object on which the invention is based is, there-fore, to provide a gear o~ the type mentioned in the introduction, which requires a low outlay for producing the locating devices between the gear box and the gear cover, which are responsible fo~ the meshing accuracy of the gear wheels.
The solution according to the invention is that the '7 ~

locating devices are formed by surfaces of revolution concentric to the bearing.
Appropriately, a bearing block connected in one piece to the housing box is provided for the arrangement of the bearing on the housing box.
The locating surface on the same side as the bearing which is designed as a surface of revolution, is appropriately formed by a surface which contributes functionally to the formation of the bearing itself, because this surface already fits accurately and there is therefore no additional outlay in terms of machining for a further locating surface. For example, the outer surface of a ball-bearing rac~ or a bore having a bearing race can be used for these purposes. Correspondingly, -there is on the cover a bore surrounding the bearing race or respectively a projection engaging into the bore.
A simplification brought about by means of the invention is based on the fact that the locating surfaces on the housing, which are required for centering the cover relative to the housing box, are obtained automatically when the bearing bores are made, and on the fact that fixing the cover in an angular position relative to the housing becomes completely superfluous. This is because, by using locating surfaces con-centric to the bearing bore of the housing, the distance between the shafts is fixed completely and can no longer be influenced by a change in the angular position of the cover relative to the housing.
The invention is explained in more detail be]ow with reference to the drawing which shows in a single Figure a vertical longitudinal section through the gear.
The gear housing is formed by the gear box 1 hatched towards the bottom right and by the housing cover 2 hatched towards the top right which closes the assembly orifice of the gear box. The gear housing has a base area 3 with anchoring devices not shown. With regard to the gear-shafk axis 4, it contains a bearing bore 5 remote from the cover and a bearing bore 6 on the same side as the cover, which is formed in a wall part 7 which is also referred to in this description as a bearing block, although this expression does not contain any restricting statement as regards the form of this part. The bores 5 and 6 can be made on one and the same machine without rechucking the work piece. There is therefore a guarantee that lQ they will be positioned in alignment.
Roller bearings 8,9 are located in the bearing bores 5,6 for mounting a gear shaft 10 which supports on the same side as the cover a gear wheel 11 and a pinion 12 which meshes with a gear wheel 13 on a driven shaft 1~. A bore 15 in the side of the housing box facing away from the cover gives access to the gear shaft 12, after the removal of a closure cover 16, and allows the gear shaft to be assembled.
The end faces 17 of the housing-box walls on the same side as the cover form a plane sealing surface to interact with the corresponding sealing surface 18 of the housing cover 2.
The end face 19 of the bearing block 7 on -the same side as the cover is arranged in the plane of this surface or at a little distance away from this.
The outer bearing race of the roller bearing 9 pro-jects, Qn the same side as the cover, beyond the surfaces 17 and 19, in such a way that the exposed part 20 of its outer periphery forms a locating surface for centering the cover which is provided, for this pu~pose, with a suitable bore 21.
The cover 2 contains a locating bore 22 for centering a flange motor, now shown in the drawing, the shaft 23 of which projects~ as a so-called cover shaft, into the gear housing and SuppQ~ts a pinion ~5 inte~acting with the gear wheel 11.

The quality of meshing of the pinion 25 with the gear wheel 11 is dete~mined solely by the distance between the associat-ed axes 4 and 24 and consequently by the center-to-center distance between the locatlng bores 21 and 22. The angul.ar position of the cover 2 relative to the axis of rotation 4 is of no importance for the meshing quality. In this construction, therefore, it is not necessary, in any respect, to fix the position of the cover 2 relative to the housing box 1 exactly by means of locating pins; instead, it is sufficient to center the cover 2 relative to the axis of rota~ion 4. This centering is achieved in the simplest way by means of the bore 21 of the cover interacting with the outer race of the bearing 9. More-over, as a result of the arrangment of the bearing 9 in the bearing block 7 arranged in the housing box, the quality of mounting of the shaft 10 becomes independent of the position of the cover 2.
