Abstract
Disposable body-contact sanitary pad Abstract:
A disposable body-contact sanitary pad is described which is adapted to be removably carried over the end of the penis. It comprises a unitary member consisting of a thin, highly absorbent fill material of generally hemi-spherical contour, and a compressed peripheral continuous margin of reduced thickness.

Description
- ~ ~57723 This invention relates to disposable body-contact sanitary pads.
Sanitary pads are well known in commerce and are widely used by women. Many women are troubled with the problem of a daily light vaginal discharge and special light weight pads have been developed for this purpose.
Men may also be troubled with the problem of a daily light penile discharge and this can be bothersome and unsightly. Pads for undergarments have been developed for the purpose of collecting penile discharge but these have not been widely accepted. For instance, Bardy U.S. Patent 3,212,500 describes very complicated and difficult to manufacture undershorts with a special crotch piece holding an absorbent pad.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a very small and light weight absorbent pad which can be carried directly by the penis.
The present invention in its broadest aspect relates to a disposable body-contact pad adapted to be removably carried over the end of the penis, comprising a unitary member consisting of a thin, highly absorbent fill mater-ial of generally hemi-spherical contour, and a compressed peripheral continuous margin of reduced thickness, said margin of reduced thickness being adapted to be held between skin folds of the penis.
- The entire pad is typically formed of bleached cellulose wadding and is formed into a generally hemi-spherical shape. The peripheral continuous margin of the pad is compressed to a greater degree than the remaining - portion so that the peripheral margin has a reduced thick-ness. The margin should also continue to have some degree of flexibility.
, .
~ 157723 It is also possible for the pad to be provided with outer layers of a flexible porous material containing a non-toxic thermoplastic material. This helps to stabilize the cellulose wadding particularly in the marginal areas.
Another feature of the pad of this invention is that it may be used for the administration of drugs. Ointments, antibiotics, etc. can be administered on a continuous basis by being impregnated into the pad.
Furthermore, it may be used as a test device when impregnated with a test chemical. For instance, it may be used to detect by way of color tests various urinary conditions.
The invention is further illustrated by the accompany-ing drawings in which:
Figure 1 is an isometric view of the fully formed pad of the invention and Figure 2 is a cross-section of the pad shown in Figure 1.
As will be seen from Figures 1 and 2, the pad has a dome shaped crown portion lG which can be generally hemi-spherical in contour. The peripheral continuous margin of this hemi-spherical portion is compressed to a further degree than the dome 10 to form a thin marginal projection 11. This thin marginal projection is adapted to be held between the skin folds of the penis and thereby retain the pad for use.
This avoids the need for any specially designed under-garments with pad holding pouches, etc.
