Abstract
ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
A gripping element on a pull-knob pop-up drain for lavabos, bidets or other such sanitary equipment has an adjustable coupling produced by the gripping element between a stopper lever and a pull rod. The gripping element consists of a gripping spring and a supporting piece which together form a unit. The gripping spring is equipped with limbs and these in turn have receiving holes for the pull rod. The supporting piece is provided with an opening to receive the one end of the stopper lever and also with bridges for holding the limbs of the gripping spring.

Description
~ ~572V~
The invention relates to a gripping means on a pop-up drain for lavabos, bidets a~d other such plu~bing fixtures, which serves to provide an adjustable coupling between a stopper lever and a pull rodO
For the draining of water from s~ch fixtures a stopper is lifted upwardly. This stopper is operated by means of a pull knob which is mounted on a pull rod which is join~d at approximately right angles to a stopper levPr leading to the stopper.
This connectio~ is provided by an adjustable gripping means, such as to permit the drain to open and close prop-erly .
Such a coupling piece is known from German Petty Patent 7512g80~5; according to this patent a holding means is pro-vided, which is made in one piece as a clamp-like device in the form of a clip which can bend resiliently to an approx-imate U-shape, , -1-1 15~208 In this case it is disadvantageous ~hat the limbs of the holding means can easily become permanently deformed during assembly by overbendin~ the limbs. In such a state the holding means can no longer perform its function. An-other disadvantage of this design is ~ha~ the spriny elementis weakened at an important point by the making of the hole or holes for the stopper lever~
It was the object of the invention to eliminate the~e disadvantages and furthermore to provide a gripping means which will assure reliable operation despite its simple design.
This i5 accomplished in accordance with the invention in that the gripping means consists of a gripping spring and a supporting piece, and these parts form a unit wherein the gripping spring is equipped with limbs, and these in turn are equipped with holes for accommodating the pull rod, and the supporting piece is provided with an opening to accom-modate the one end of the stopper lever and furthermore with bridges to hold the lir~s of the spring clip. The advan-tages of the invention lie especially in the act that thespring clip and the supporting piece form a comonent unit, and that overbending of the ~pring clip cannot take place, since any bending of the spriny limbs beyond a speci~ied 3 ~S72~8 tolerance is prevented by the supporting piece, and in the fact that by mounting the stopper lever in an opening pro~ided for it in the supportlng piece, any weakening of the spring strenyth i5 prevented.
According to a further development of the invention, the stopper lever is mounted within the opening in the plastic piece on a central constriction. Thus a aultless movement of the stopper lever is assured.
This is supported by an additional development of the invention according to which an opening in the plastic piece is flared on both sides of the constriction.
The subject matter of the invention is represent~d in the drawing rela~ing to an embodiment, wherein:
Figure 1 ~hows a pull-~nob pop-up drain with a gripping element in accordance with the present invention, Figure 2 is a top view of the gripping element of Figure 1, Figure 3 is a side view of Figure 2, partially in cross section.
The pull-knob pop-up drain shown in the drawing is commonly designed for a lavabo, a bidet or the like, and consists of a drain body 1 which communicates with a drain funnel 2 having a drain opening 3. The lateral drain openings 3~ communicate wi~h the overflow o~ the plumbing fixture. The drain funnel 2 receives a conventional stopper 4, which is operated by means of a stopper le~er 5 and a pull rod 6 cooperating therewith. The coupling between the stopper lever 5 and the pull rod 6 is accomplished by means of a gripping element 7.
According ~o the invention, the gripping element 7 is formed of a gripping spring 8 and a supporting piece 9.
Parts 8 and 9 form a unit. The gripping spring 8 has the limbs 10 and 11 and has holes 12 and 13 to accommodate the pull rod 6. The supp~rting piece 9 made of plastic has an opening 14 to accommodate the one end of the stopper lever 5. The plastic supporting piece 9 is furthermore equipped with bridges 16 and 17 t and with beads 18 and 19 for re-taining the limbs 10 and 11 and thus the gripping spring 8.
As it can be seen, the stopper lever 5 can pivot within the opening 14 on a central constriction 21. The opening 14 flares outwardly on either side of this constric-tion 2~.
The use of the resilient gripping element will now bedescribed. After the pull-knob pop-up drain has been in-1 ~7~08 stalled, the grlpping elemen~ is, for example, first pushedonto the stopper lever 5. Then, after the limbs 10 and 11 have been compressed together appropriately, the pull rod 6 is introduced into the holes 12 and 13, ana the correct positioning is established. When the limbs 10 and 11 are released, they grip the pull rod 6 tightly at the holes 12 and 13.
