Abstract
ABSTRACT
A Vehicle Upset Warning Device, whose electricity conductive components cause a horn to sound and/or light to glow when vehicle is at a dangerous tilt for a predetermined length of time. The device switch connected to a regulated positive electrical source, is a ball jointed conducting pendulum that strikes the flat sides of one of four, curved (curved on the edge), conducting strips. The arc and length of the flat, curved strips are dependant on the length of the pendulum, and the angle from vertical of the adjacent strips. Two curved strips of like size are placed parallel to the longitudinal vehicle axis and at an angle from vertical, less than that required to laterally upset the vehicle. The remaining two curved strips are placed perpendicular to the longitudinal vehicle axis and at an angle from ver-tical less than the angle required to upset the vehicle longitudinally. The four conducting curved strips are connected to a short time delay relay which is con-nected to a horn and/or warning light. The system, except for the horn and/or warning light, is enclosed.

Description
3l~3~ 3L~3 SPECIFICATION
This invention is a preventative measure against upsetting in predomin-antly industrial vehicles.
Previous vehicle upset warning devices were lacking in that a time de-lay was not incorporated in the systems, thereby allowing for false alarms. Andsome previous systems did not differentiate the longitudinal angle of upset fromthe lateral angle of upset, thereby not being practical for most vehicles.
When a conducting ball jointed pendulum strikes one of the four flat curved tcurved on the edge), conducting strips (the arc and length of the flat curved strips are dependant on the length of the pendulum, and the angle from vertical of the adjacent strips), positioned at angles from vertical, slightly less than the angles that overturn a vehicle laterally or longitudinally, ~he device will give warning only when the vehicle is near one of the angles oF overturning, for a predetermined length of time. The incorporated time delay ~elay eliminates false alarms caused by jarring movements and bumps.
A particular example of use for the vehicle upset warning device would be as follows. Assume a tractor overturns sideways at an angle of thirty-five degrees from the vertical. Suppose the tractor has reached a lateral angle of thirty degrees from vertical. In such a case, the ball jointed pendulum, that has its seat connected to a regulated positive electricity source, strikes one of the ~O two laterally placed flat curved strips. The four flat, curved strips, two parallel and two perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the tractor, are connected to a short time clelay relay which is connected to a horn and/or warning light. The pen-dulum, flat curved strips, and time delay relay are enclosed by a plastic enclosure.
The vehicle upset warning device is best suited for farm tractors, earth moving vehicles, motori7ed snow vehicles, and all terrain, or rough terrain vehicles.

Claims
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privi-lege is claimed are defined as follows.
1) An enclosed electrically complemented device consisting of a conduc-ting pendulum that when tilted From vertical to predetermined angles, strikes the flat side of one of four conducting, flat, curved, angled from vertical strips, (arcs of a circle curved on the edge, with imaginary diameters crossing the top of the pendulum surface), that are parallel and perpendicular to a vehicle longitudinal axis, and which pass the current for alarm to an off type time delay relay, horn, and warning light.
