Abstract
ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
There is provided a device for a pest control agent containing an earth metal phosphide and/or alkaline earth metal phosphide, preferably in the form of shaped objects, for fumigating rooms, the device consisting of a solid film which is stable to mechanical stress and provided with cavities (or recesses) that contain the pest control agent, and, in a given case, contain a material or mixture of materials which as such or which after the gassing of the pest control agent destroy the traces of phosphide still present in the residue with a water treatment and oxidize the phosphine thus developed to non-toxic compounds, wherein the cavities (or recesses) are covered by a material permeable to atmospheric moisture, and whereby for storage and transportation the device can be packaged gas-tight in a bag, the film with the cavities (or recesses) being made of a synthetic or natural material which is soluble in water or decomposable by liquid water.
There is provided a device for a pest control agent containing an earth metal phosphide and/or alkaline earth metal phosphide, preferably in the form of shaped objects, for fumigating rooms, the device consisting of a solid film which is stable to mechanical stress and provided with cavities (or recesses) that contain the pest control agent, and, in a given case, contain a material or mixture of materials which as such or which after the gassing of the pest control agent destroy the traces of phosphide still present in the residue with a water treatment and oxidize the phosphine thus developed to non-toxic compounds, wherein the cavities (or recesses) are covered by a material permeable to atmospheric moisture, and whereby for storage and transportation the device can be packaged gas-tight in a bag, the film with the cavities (or recesses) being made of a synthetic or natural material which is soluble in water or decomposable by liquid water.
Description
t734 In German Auslegeschri~t 2,206,487 there is described a device for pest control a~ents containin~ earth metal phosphide and/or alkaline, preferably in the form of shaped objects for fumigating rooms wherein the pest control agent is in an atmospheric moisture permeable covering. This device consists of a solid film stable to mechanical stress and having cavities (or recesses) therein which contain the pest control a~ent, whereby the cavities are covered by a material which is permeable to atmospheric moisture. In a given case one or more of the cavities in place of the pest control agent can contain a material or mixture of materials which as such or which after the gassing of pest control agent destroy traces of phosphide still present in the residues with a water treatment and oxidize the phosphine developed hereby into non-toxic compounds. The entire device can be packaged gas-tight in a bag for storage and transportation. The film with the cavities can consist of, for example, an organic synthetic resin such as polyvinyl chloride or polyethylene. After the gassing the film with the residues remaining can be put into water whereby the traces of phosphide still contained in the residues are decomposed and the phosphine f developed ~ereby can be oxidized to non-toxic compounds. ~ -The present invention provides a device of this type which leaves behind less envlronmentally injurious residues after ~

According to the present invention, the film with the cavities is made of a water soluble or a liquid water decompos- ~ ;
able ~or disintegratable) synthetic or natural material, such as for example poly~inyl alcohol, polyethylene oxide or poly-ethylidene oxide. After the gassing if such a device is put into water the film dissolves or decomposes and the water receives a free entrance to the residues still containing traces of undecomposed phosphide. be decomposed by the ground moisture or will dissolve in it and then the traces of undecomposed phosphide can also be decomposed. A particularly well suited material ~or the film is gelatin.
According to the present invention therefore there is provided a device for a pest control agent containing at least one phosphide selected from an earth metal phosphide and alkaline earth metal phosphide, for fumigating rooms, said device comprising a solid film which is stable to mechanical stress and provided with cavities that contain the pest control agent, wherein the cavities are covered by a material permeable to atmospheric moisture, and whereby for storage and transporta-tion the device can be packaged gas-tight in a bag, the film with the cavities being made of a synthetic or natural material which is soluble in water or decomposable by liquid water.
It was further found that a device according to the present invention with particular advantage has as covering for the cavities (or recesses) of the film a fabric or fleece, which likewise is made of a water soluble or liquid water deoomposable synthetic or natural material. Also hereto there ~-can be used for the atmosphPrlc moisture permeable covering one made of gelatin. - ~, The present invention will be further illustrated by way of the accompanying drawings wherein, FIGURE 1 is a sectional view of the device according to one embodiment of the present invention, and FIGURE 2 is a top plan view of the device o~ ~igure 1.
Referring more specifically to the drawings, the device consists of a thick film 1 in which cavities (or recesses)

It was further found that a device according to the present invention with particular advantage has as covering for the cavities (or recesses) of the film a fabric or fleece, which likewise is made of a water soluble or liquid water deoomposable synthetic or natural material. Referring more specifically to the drawings, the device consists of a thick film 1 in which cavities (or recesses)
2 are stamped. On the lower side there is a sheet 3 o a porous, r~
water vapor permeable material~ which is sealed to the film between the cavities. In the cavities there are tahlets 4 of the ~ 2 -~C)7~734 pest control agent and tablets 5 which consist of a mix-ture of calcium hypochlorite, citric acld and a small amount of a redox indicator.
In each bag 6 there are on the film 1 exactly determined amounts of both tablets 4 and 5 which are provided for a specified room size. By tearing of the sealed edges 9 of the bag 6 or cutting with a scissors the device 10 contained in the bag 6 can easily be taken out and be placed in the room to be fumigated.
For storage and transportation the device is located r entirely in a bag 6 made of a synthetic resin 7 lined gas impermeable aluminum foil 8 whose edges 9 are sealed gas-tight.
Several such bags 6 can be provided in a gas-tight container of metal or synthetic resin.

For storage and transportation the device is located r entirely in a bag 6 made of a synthetic resin 7 lined gas impermeable aluminum foil 8 whose edges 9 are sealed gas-tight.
Several such bags 6 can be provided in a gas-tight container of metal or synthetic resin.

Claims (7)
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. A device for a pest control agent containing at least one phosphide selected from an earth metal phosphide and alkaline earth metal phosphide, for fumigating rooms, said device comprising a solid film which is stable to mechanical stress and provided with cavities that contain the pest control agent, wherein the cavities are covered by a material permeable to atmos-pheric moisture, and whereby for storage and transportation the device can be packaged gas-tight in a bag, the film with the cavities being made of a synthetic or natural material which is soluble in water or decomposable by liquid water.
2. A device according to claim 1, wherein the film with the cavities is of gelatin.
3. A device according to claim 2, wherein the covering for the cavities of the film is a fabric or a fleece of a synthetic or natural material which is soluble in water or is disintegratable by liquid water.
4. A device according to claim 3, wherein the covering is of gelatin.
5. A device as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3, which is packaged in a gas-tight bag.
6. A device as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3, in which the pest control agent is present in the form of shaped objects.
7. A device as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3, in which the cavities also contain a material or mixture of materials which as such or which after the gassing of the pest control agent destroy the traces of phosphide still present in the residue with a water treatment and oxidize the phosphine thus developed to non-toxic compounds.
