Um artigo compósito (21) para uso em uma gaxeta térmica de freio de aeronave, o artigo compreendendo uma camada de núcleo (22) que tem uma porção de face e uma camada de desgaste (23) afixada à porção de face, onde a camada de desgaste (23) tem um peso específico mais baixo do que o da camada de núcleo (22). A camada de núcleo (22) pode ser fabricada a partir de C-C comprimido ou a partir de C-C impregnado com boro e/ou silício. A camada de desgaste (23) pode ser fabricada a partir de C-C.
