A single anchor maintenance vessel contains one or more anchors, each of which has a distribution connection and a mooring connection. The anchor maintenance vessel moves an anchor around its stern cylinder and lowers it to the bottom of the sea for installation. A maintenance line is disconnected by the ROV from the distribution connection and is moved to the mooring connection to become the main mooring line. The buoys are then mounted on the main mooring line to raise it above the seabed for recovery. When MODU positioning is desired, the anchor maintenance vessel retrieves the buoy and connects its mooring line to the rig's mooring line, using the short section of the mooring chain. A J-shaped Capture blocking device is then installed on the mooring rope and is connected to the probe's mooring line by a short section of the chain. The J-shaped retainer lowers the mooring rope, completing the mooring connection between the anchor and MODU. A plurality of mooring ropes, usually eight in number, is distributed in this way to correctly position the drilling unit offshore. The disconnection of the MODU is performed essentially through a procedure contrary to the distribution procedure above.
