Abstract
''PROCESSO CONTINUAMENTE OPERáVEL PARA TORNAR COMBUSTìVEIS CARBONADOS DE QUALIDADE RELATIVAMENTE BAIXA EM COMBUSTìVEIS PRONTAMENTE TRANSPORTáVEIS E QUEIMáVEIS''. Um processo para melhorar a forma do combustível, elevar o conteúdo energético, e abaixar o nível de impurezas de carvões de baixa qualidade e/ou de resíduos carbonados, como Resíduo Sólido Municipal (MSW, Municipal Solid Waste), Combustível Derivado de Refugo (RDF, Refuse Derived Fuel), e de lama de esgoto, transformando o combustível de baixa qualidade, o resíduo carbonado, ou suas misturas, em uma lama aquosa de viscosidade processável. Esta lama de alimentação é aquecida sob pressão (118), normalmente na presença de um álcali (109), para uma temperatura na qual ocorre um significativo rearranjo molecular e físico, caracterizado pela liberação de uma proporção considerável do oxigênio ligado no carvão de baixa qualidade ou no resíduo carbonado, como dióxido de carbono (147). Nestas condições, partículas sólidas na lama de alimentação (103) perdem muito de seu caráter hidrofílico e fibroso, e são fragmentadas em partículas menores de material carbonizado, resultando uma lama de reologia dramaticamente melhorada, i.e., capaz de apresentar uma concentração de sólidos (ou densidade energética) muito mais elevada na viscosidade processável.
