The present inventors have discovered that a spray-dried detergent particle having an alkaline earth metal silicate and/or disilicate salt formed in situ by the reaction of an alkali metal silicate with an alkaline earth metal salt. Alkali metal silicate powder provides excellent powder properties when the detersive surfactant content is reduced, this also provides extended shelf life without caking. It was surprisingly discovered that the spray-dried particle provides the desired pH in the washing solution, necessary for good stain removal performance, without being harsh on hands or fabrics.
