The present inventors have surprisingly found that a spray-dried detergent particle exhibits extended shelf life and demonstrates excellent non-caking powder properties during use when the spray-dried detergent particle is prepared by a process in which a silicate salt and/or or alkaline earth metal disilicate is formed in situ by the reaction of an alkali metal silicate with an alkaline earth metal salt, and the spray-dried detergent particle also includes an alkali metal silicate salt with an optimal content of detersive surfactant, filler and carbonate complexing, wherein the composition preferably has no phosphate complexing agent and no zeolite complexing agent.
