Abstract

BACKGROUND

AIN-93G + maitake mushroom extract (available from Aloha Medicinals Inc.) (replacing 0.0005% carbohydrates with 0.0005% maitake mushroom extract), having 18% protein, 7.2% fat, 63% carbohydrates, 5% fiber and 6.8% moisture.

AIN-93G + walnut flour (Oh! Nuts® available from www.ohnuts.com) (replacing 11.3% carbohydrates with 11.3% walnuts), with 21% protein, 8% fat, 57 , 5% carbohydrates, 5% fiber and 8.5% moisture.

Composition of nutrient blend (NB): 11.3% whole wheat flour,

0.005% maitake mushroom extract, 0.05% EGCG, 3% turmeric root powder, 0.005% lycopene, 0.1% taurine and 2% fish oil.

[0047] The results of the study demonstrate that only the "NB" composition reduced the occurrence of cancer (Table 1) and slowed the growth of cancer (Tables 2 and 3). Compositions supplemented with a single nutrient did not achieve similar preventive effects. The data clearly demonstrate that the NB composition provided unexpected cancer prevention effects, which cannot be achieved by single nutrient compositions. The present results are totally unexpected, since the present NB blend used EGCG, fish oil and maitake mushroom extract, which individually increased the sizes of the tumors in relation to the control diet (see Table 2) . The present NB composition has provided a powerful cancer treatment in animals and can be used for the prevention or treatment of animals that are at high risk of developing cancer, as well as in animals that have completed cancer treatments. Use of at least four of the nutrients selected from the group consisting of walnut, maitake mushroom extract, EGCG, turmeric root powder, lycopene, taurine, EPA and DHA, characterized by the fact that it is for the preparation of a composition for providing a health benefit to an animal. 2. Use according to claim 1, characterized by the fact that the composition is administered as a food or supplement. 3. Use, according to claim 1, characterized by the fact that the composition is a supplement, and in which the nut is present in an amount of 60.61% to 83.33% of the supplement, the extract of maitake mushroom is present in an amount of 0.0017% to 0.076% of the supplement, EGCG is present in an amount of 0.167% to 1.52% of the supplement, turmeric root powder is present in an amount of 16, 67% to 24.24% of the supplement, lycopene is present in an amount of 0.0167% to 0.033% of the supplement, taurine is present in an amount of 0.833% to 1.52% of the supplement, EPA it is present in an amount of 0.833% to 6.06% of the supplement and DHA is present in an amount of 0.833% to 6.06% of the supplement. 4. Use, according to claim 1, characterized by the fact that the composition is a food, and in which the nut is present in an amount of 5% to 20% of the food, the extract of co- gumelo maitake is present in an amount of 0.0001% to 0.025% of the food, EGCG is present in an amount of 0.01% to 0.5% of the food, turmeric root powder is present in an amount of 1% to 8% of the food, lycopene is present in an amount of 0.001% to 0.01% of the food, taurine is present in an amount of 0.05% to 0.5% of the food, EPA it is present in an amount of 0.05% to 2% of the food and DHA is present in an amount of 0.05% to 2% of the food. 5. Use, according to claim 1, characterized by the fact that the composition comprises at least 4 nutrients that include maitake mushroom extract, turmeric root powder, taurine and walnut. 6. Use according to claim 1, characterized by the fact that the composition comprises at least 6 nutrients. 7. Use, according to claim 1, characterized by the fact that the composition is a complete and nutritionally balanced pet food, and in which the animal is a pet. 8. Use, according to claim 1, characterized by the fact that administration is carried out on a regular basis. 9. Use, according to claim 1, characterized by the fact that the health benefit is the treatment or prevention of cancer, providing an anti-inflammatory effect, providing an analgesic effect, treating or preventing arthritis, pain management, treatment or prevention of tendonitis, treatment or prevention of neurodegenerative diseases, treatment or prevention of inflammatory bowel disease, treatment or prevention of retinal disease, treatment or prevention of autoimmune disease, treatment or prevention of depression, treatment or prevention from heart disease, treatment or prevention of kidney or kidney disease, treatment or prevention of dermatitis, treatment or prevention of allergies, or treatment or prevention of liver disease. 10. Composition, characterized by the fact that it comprises a mixture of nutrients, which includes at least four nutrients selected from the group consisting of: walnut in an amount of 60.61% to 83.33% of the mixture of nutrients, extract maitake mushroom in an amount of 0.0017% to 0.076% of the nutrient mix, EGCG in an amount of 0.167% to 1.52% of the nutrient mix, tourmaline root powder in an amount of 16.67% to 24.24% of the nutrient mix, lycopene in an amount of 0.0167% to 0.033% of the nutrient mix, taurine in an amount of 0.833% to 1.52% of the nutrient mix, EPA in an amount of 0.833% to 6.06% of the nutrient mixture, and DHA in an amount of 0.833% to 6.06% of the nutrient mixture; where the nutrient mix provides an animal with a health benefit. 11. Composition, according to claim 10, characterized by the fact that it is formulated as a supplement or a food. 12. Composition, according to claim 10, characterized by the fact that it is a pet food, and in which the animal is a pet. 13. Composition, according to claim 10, characterized by the fact that it is a supplement, and in which the nut is present in an amount of 60.61% to 83.33% of the supplement, the maitake mushroom extract is present in an amount of 0.0017% to 0.076% of the supplement, EGCG is present in an amount of 0.167% to 1.52% of the supplement, the turmeric root powder is present in an amount of 16.67% at 24.24% of the supplement, lycopene is present in an amount of 0.0167% to 0.033% of the supplement, taurine is present in an amount of 0.833% to 1.52% of the supplement, EPA is present in an amount of 0.833% to 6.06% of the supplement and DHA is present in an amount of 0.833% to 6.06% of the supplement. 14. Composition, according to claim 10, characterized by the fact that it is a food, and in which the nut is present in an amount of 5% to 20% of the food, the maitake mushroom extract is present in an amount of 0.0001% to 0.025% of the food, the EGCG is present in an amount of 0.01% to 0.5% of the food, the turmeric root powder is present in an amount of 1% 8% of the food, lycopene is present in an amount of 0.001% to 0.01% of the food, taurine is present in an amount of 0.05% to 0.5% of the food, EPA is present in an amount of 0.05% to 2% of the food and DHA is present in an amount of 0.05% to 2% of the food. 15. Composition, according to claim 10, characterized by the fact that the health benefit is the treatment or prevention of cancer, providing an anti-inflammatory effect, providing an analgesic effect, treatment or arthritis prevention, pain management, tendonitis treatment or prevention, treatment or prevention of neurodegenerative diseases, treatment or prevention of inflammatory bowel disease, treatment or prevention of retinal disease, treatment or prevention of autoimmune disease, treatment or prevention of depression , treatment or prevention of heart disease, treatment or prevention of kidney or kidney disease, treatment or prevention of dermatitis, treatment or prevention of allergies, or treatment or prevention of liver disease. 16.
