a presente invenção provê um conversor multinível modular (mmc) no qual submódulos redundantes m são adicionalmente organizados além dos submódulos n que são necessários para a operação, e os submódulos n+m são controlados, de modo a participar na comutação, por sua vez. o mmc, de acordo com uma modalidade da presente invenção, inclui múltiplos submódulos conectados em série entre si e um controlador para controlar a comutação liga/desliga dos submódulos. aqui, os múltiplos submódulos incluem submódulos n que participam na operação do mmc e submódulos redundantes m para substituir um submódulo com falha quando pelo menos um dos submódulos n falha, e o controlador liga o submódulo, se a onda portadora atribuída a estes é maior do que um sinal de referência predefinido, e desliga o submódulo, se a onda portadora atribuída a estes é menor do que o sinal de referência.
