In order to be able to perform a quick and convenient check of the retarder concentration after dilution at the place of use, a tracer material is mixed with the retarder in known quantity during manufacture. The tracer is chosen to allow its concentration to be determined analytically after dilution at the place of use, thereby providing a way to determine the concentration of the hardening retarder after such dilution. The marker may be a redox active material and its concentration may be determined by voltammetry. The tracer may also be mixed with additives other than the hardening retardant.
