The present invention relates to a system, in certain embodiments, including a pulsation dampener to minimize the adverse effects of pulsation waves on a process fluid generated by an alternating compressor. The pulse damper may be installed near the source of the pulse waves, and external to a main flow path of the process fluid being compressed within the alternating compressor. More specifically, in certain embodiments, the pulsation damper may be a pulsation damping valve housing configured to at least partially close an alternate compressor valve assembly. the pulsation damping valve housing may be filled with a pulsation damping material such as a wire mesh material, a viscoelastic material, an elastomeric material or a combination thereof.
