Abstract

The fabric includes pairs of binder yarns that bond together to the upper and lower layers. The binder pairs are intertwined so that they are an integral part of the first layer and contribute to its structure. The binder pairs are not an integral part of the second layer and do not contribute to its structure. During a repeating pattern, at least one of the two binder strands of a binder pair is integrally woven with the strands of the first layer and passes over the outer surfaces of the two nonconsecutive strands in the second layer. As a result, a 'double knot' bonding structure can be formed, providing integrity to the resulting composite fabric by reducing the length of the binder yarn passage through the fabric.
