Abstract

"MéTODO E SISTEMA PARA ATIVAR, ALTERNATIVAMENTE UMA UNIDADE DE HARDWARE SUBSTITUìVEL". A presente invenção proporciona um método e um sistema para ativação alternativa, em um sistema de processamento de dados, de uma unidade de hardware substituível de um primeiro ou segundo tipo, que proporciona um conjunto pré-determinado de capacidades funcionais, por meio do qual o referido sistema de processamento de dados está sendo configurado de modo a permitir habilitação seletiva e eletrónica de pelo menos um subconjunto das referidas capacidades funcionais. Inicialmente, a unidade de hardware substituível é fornecida para um sistema de processamento de dados. Então, o tipo de unidade de hardware substituível fornecida fica determinado. A seguir, se a unidade de hardware substituível fornecida for do primeiro tipo, o subconjunto de capacidades funcionais a ser habilitado eletronicamente é determinado e, subseq³entemente, habilitado. Alternativamente, se a referida unidade de hardware substituível fornecida for do segundo tipo, todas as capacidades funcionais da referida unidade de hardware substituível fornecida são habilitadas, no lugar.
