Particles and fibers are useful, for example, as thermal insulation, fillers or reinforcing material in composites (for example, ceramic, metal or polymer matrix composites). Thin coatings can be useful, for example, as protective coatings in wear applications as well as for thermal management. Certain ceramic particles according to the present invention may be particularly useful in the form of abrasive particles.
