Abstract

FOR TREATMENT OF FEMALE URINARY INCONTINENCE". The application for the privilege of invention deals with an electrical stimulator for the treatment of female urinary incontinence consisting of electronic circuits responsible for the generation of biphasic pulses of electric current applied to the pelvic musculature through a transvaginal stimulation probe (Figure 2), introduced into the patient's vagina. These pulses produce muscle contraction and train the muscles that can act to control involuntary urine loss. The stimulator equipment is fully programmable through the serial interface of personal and portable computers, and can be used by patients in their homes. The technique of transvaginal electrical stimulation is considered a conservative and effective alternative for the treatment of female urinary incontinence, according to several research studies, including at the Hospital de Clínicas of Porto Alegre, as well as without side effects.
